How do the NFL players avoid frostbite?  I can't believe how many of them are not wearing turtlenecks and long sleeves under their jerseys.  It seems like they should be able to come up with some ski mask-type covering that wouldn't block their peripheral vision, too.

It does remind me of the Joe Namath pantyhose commercial, though.  I wonder how many are wearing L'eggs.  :)

Those "robes" for lack of a better description are pretty warm... plus they work up body heat while playing.

But you are right... it IS cold out there! I'm more concerned though for the fans that are up there and NOT being overly active!

I figure the fans have a choice to be there. Plus they can use electric socks, hand warmers, go into the stadium interior, wear ski masks and scarves.

I know they have a choice, but some fans live up the the long version "fanatic" and are more worried about missing an important play than they are about staying healthy.

ETA: like these guys...

One of the reasons I'm grateful the Colts have a roofed stadium.  Although I would love to see the Bears play at Soldier Field, as long as I didn't have to sit in the UFO section.  I'd buy hand warmers and electric socks.  :)

I'm kind of torn on enclosed stadiums... part of the challenge of football is dealing with the elements.

I mean, it's not like it's baseball where they cover the field and take the rest of the day off if it drizzles...

LOL at baseball. Although it has to be raining pretty hard for them to call a rain delay at my minor league team's game. (And some of those early games involve two sweatshirts, gloves, and hat. I've even had to use my Snuggie! )

Maybe they fortify themselves with beer and such to feel warmer?

Could be... but in that case it's a false sense because alcohol actually lowers the body's defense against cold!

Well, Richard, alcohol gives a lot of people a false sense of whatever, doesn't it?
