but I have a vent.

I slipped away from our market booth for DH to tell me I missed out on a doozy.  A lady and her husband were at the front of the booth and said "Can you believe it, $35 for a piece of rock" loud enough that DH could hear it in the back with music going on around them.  Man, I sure wish I could have told her, you mean you dig up rocks like that in your back yard?  Can I come dig for a bit?  Effing a, how do people have absolutely no tact and manners out in public?  She must have gotten a GREAT deal on her furniture, I mean, it is ONLY wood.  The kicker is right after that she commented on how she really liked one of the designs.  I get it, my things are not for everyone.  There are many things I would not spend the asking $ amount on.  I would NEVER spew insults in a market where it is very likely the person who designed and made it can here me.

Oh, you better get used to hearing that kind of crap. People are used to commenting on the price, value, whatever of something for sale, and don't think twice when they're in the presence of the people selling it, much less when they're in the presence of the people who made it.

When some people are "customers" (whether they actually buy something or not), it seems like it's a chemical reaction to being in a "sales area" that their inner azzhole MUST come out.

Fortunately I have done this is the 10th time I have done this show and have never heard it before. I have heard the, oh, I know how to do that when it comes to my etched glass stuff. Great, go do it. Unfortunately, I had a second person say something to the effect of, oh, I bet they are expensive or something or another. Anyway. It always cracks me up that I have the extreme experiences. People are either, wow, that is so cheap for what it is or it is overpriced. I just have to remind myself that I have a wholesale account who buys from me every single month, no fail, and she sells my things in her store for more than my retail pricing.

I was at one of the Christmas Markets this past season and was drooling over something that was really neat. I asked what it cost and she seem shocked when I responded with "that isn't bad". I was in the booth with my Aunt who does similar work and I have an appreciation for what it took to make the item as well as materials. I didn't seem to be the common response to her though.

Unfortunately it was something that you would wear once for the wow factor to the right event and then really what would you do with it? I jokingly mentioned rental and they seemed like they would have gone for it. Really nice people.

I also have a LOT of people who say, wow, that is less than what I was expecting especially when it comes to the custom rocks. I have had people come in and just buy up multiples for gifts without batting an eye. I had one lady who just had to have one of my designs that she didn't even look at the price. Then, when that lady's husband caused it to fall and break, she traveled back out to the show to look for another one. Luckily I had the exact design again and she spent the money on a second stone no problem. It is just the few bad eggs that can bring a person down.

Today was a much better day not only sale wise but customer wise. Had some fabulous people come through and talk to us. Lots of compliments. It was a good ego boost to end the weekend on since Sunday has usually been our slowest day.

Good to hear, MD. You can't let the bitchy ones get to you, you'll end up with an ulcer.
