Pat Robertson Compares Wiccans to Child Traffickers, Drug Dealers
Permalink

I’m just going to go ahead and say it – Pat Robertson is a crazy old coot who just needs to shut the hell up and go away. I can’t see how anyone takes him seriously. He’s just a giant bag of crazy. Which is something he recently proved once again when he advised a caller how to “honor” her mother who was a Wiccan.

Well, Robertson said: “I think if a parent goes into witchcraft, goes into unlawful behavior, they’re trying to get their child to sell drugs, for example, or they want to get their daughter to engage in prostitution, you name it. I think they have lost their authority before the Lord. I think they are no longer in that position deserving honor.”

First, we shouldn’t ignore the fact that this supposed “Godly” man just told someone not to honor their mother. Even though one of the Ten Commandments says, “Honour thy father and thy mother.” Then there’s the disgusting comparison he makes between someone who might choose to be Wiccan and those who try to get their children to sell drugs or parents who might sell their children for sex. Seriously? That might be one of the dumbest comparisons I’ve ever heard. I don’t care if you might disagree with someone else’s religion, but to go as far as comparing a different spiritual dogma to turning your children into drug dealers or selling them off for sex is absolutely reprehensible. It’s almost so ridiculous that I wanted to laugh until I realized that this was a real person looking to Pat Robertson for real spiritual advice.

But coming from someone like Pat Robertson, this isn’t anything new. He’s made a “career” out of spewing absolutely ridiculous and disgusting comments. For a list of some of my favorites, just go here. Also in this segment, Robertson advised someone who admitted to having a sexual relationship with a transgender woman to, “Keep your mouth shut. That’s real simple. You know, all of us did stuff before we were married, but you don’t parade out all your girlfriends or your boyfriends or your sexual encounters or whatever you did. You just don’t do it.” Yes, that’s Robertson telling someone to lie. He’s just full of good, quality values, isn’t he? People like Robertson are why I don’t consider most conservatives to be Christians. These recent comments prove exactly why.

When someone was asking a serious question about how to “honor” their mother (despite the fact that their mother was a Wiccan), instead of preaching acceptance, he preached judgement and hate. And not only that, he openly endorsed violating one of the Ten Commandments by doing so. It’s this kind of ignorance that astounds me. Robertson, as a supposed “Christian,” had a choice to preach tolerance, love and acceptance. Instead he chose to spew hate, ignorance and judgement. But in the process of giving his “advice,” all Robertson did was prove just how ignorant he really is.

I am not surprised by this.  I know pagans who have has CPS investigate, kids taken away, had their religion be a central part of the divorce.  I have personally been told that I should stop practicing my religion till my daughter is old enough that her friends will think it is cool because otherwise she will be bullied.  I've been told by a parent, when I was in high school, that she thought I was planning to sacrifice her daughter to satan but decide I could not be "that kind of witch" because I was so nice to her guide dog in training (she would bring the puppy to school to pick up her daughter.   Her daughter was horrified that her mom told me, she had been hiding it for the entire year of our friendship.  And people wonder why a pagan might avoid businesses that call out about how Christian they are.  It is because likely, they are the ones that will want to harm me or my child.

Pat Robinson preys on lost, lonely people who will send him money. He's as much of a charlatan as Kevin Trudeau. However, to judge every conservative, or every Christian, or every business that shows that the owners are Christian, is as discriminatory as judging every Muslim by Hussein, every white by Custer, every cop by Peterson.

I don't believe in Hell but I sure can easily imagine him heading straight there after he finally shuffles off this mortal coil. He is a creepy gross old man IMO.

I am judging based on large numbers of people, not individuals.  And given that I can suffer some serious attacks based on my religion, I'll continue to do what I need to be safe.  If there were more Christians that spoke up against those people, I may change my mind.  But even "nice" Christians have assumed I will sacrifice a person or animal to satan.  I am not risking my job, my safety, and especially not my child's safety and wellbeing because think I am being discriminatory.

If God exists, I imagine him greeting all these hateful people at The Gates and saying: "You skipped the 'Love thy neighbor', and the, 'Judge not lest ye be judged' parts of my message... didn't you?"

Aurora, it makes me very sincerely sad that you experience such ignorance. I will admit that I do not understand Wiccan but that doesn't mean that you should be discriminated against for it. I am sorry that others feel it is acceptable to put the pillars of their religion as an excuse to judge you. I find this " I think they have lost their authority before the Lord." to be the most ridiculous statement. That would be his Lord and what does it matter to someone who does not worship his Lord and what does it matter to him anyway? The rest of it was just utter bull ****.

Lol, I am not even Wiccan, witch and Wiccan are different but for people outside the community it is all the same (much like all Christians get lumped together, lol).  Basically paganism boils down to a couple things, belief of both male and female deities, and respecting nature.  All pagans I know believe run reincarnation and some form of Karma.  Basically it is a "new" version of what people think or has been handed down from family of beliefs from Western Europe prior to Christianity.  The ideas from the native people's in the Americans, and even the Hindus (the little I know of them) have similarities with paganism.  All in all, it is a nature religion.   We don't kill little animals, babies, teenagers (even if some parents may want to, lol), we just worship a Goddess.

Thank you for what you said, it did bring tears to my eyes.  I promise, most pagans are just like you (We just worship the ground you walk onbiggrin)

Damn, I know that I *knew* about the witch/Wiccan thing from the other board but I forgot. Sorry about that. Full disclosure, while I was raised Catholic, I don't identify as Christian. I believe in the existence of a being larger than us that is responsible for the creation of the nature and wonders around us. I don't really have an affiliation, I just exist with my own beliefs and don't worry about identifying a label for my beliefs.

Lol, again, not anything to be sorry for.  I just try to be clear when I post for others.  I dislike posting incorrect info, you know?  There is so much out there, I hate to contribute.

My pleasure. smile   I truly don't mind answer any questions people may have.  Even the, but don't you sacrifice to satan ones, if people are truly asking.  I'd rather people ask and get an answer than not know.

Was he always this bad or is it just because he is going old and senile? Not much better than when Phil Robertson used homosexuals and bestiality in the same sentence. You should know you can't do that.

Actually, it's a lot worse than Phil Robertson - Phil Robertson doesn't claim to have a direct pipeline to God. Phil Robertson doesn't have millions of people looking to him for spiritual guidance. Duck Dynasty isn't getting millions of dollars tax free because it's a church.

The rhetoric of Pat Robinson has gotten more hateful, but not because of age and senility. When he started, 'the gays' were hidden, and he had Communists to preach against. He knows which hate bandwagon he should jump on and get plenty of followers (aka $$$), publicity, and support.
