Cousin and family titles

Very small issue. My sister are not "aunt" to CS. But my cousin has coached my sister's son to call her "auntie" his whole life. It really grinds my gears.

Why?

I have a beloved grandson who is not even of my blood, but dear to my heart and thus my family.

I guess I do not see how this affects you, I mean if he called you Auntie and it was grinding your gears...ok that's one thing. If your sister does not care....why would you?

Oh, it grinds her gears to. I can see her clench her teeth every time.

I just think it's really really rude to coach someone's child to you call you "aunt" and your child doesn't call them "aunt". I don't have a problem with the title itself - I call my dad's cousins aunt and uncle, and their kids call my dad uncle and my mom aunt.

My question is, why is she aunt to my sister's child, but my sister isn't aunt to her child? I think it's really pushy. We allowed her to decide that we weren't going to be "aunt" to her son. And she's not giving my sister the same courtesy.

I get where you are coming from as far as titles. I get pissy when people that are not family call my family members family names. Because that is not really what they are. I know that is my own hang up but I don't like it. I don't call my SD "Dad" I call him his name. Because I feel like only his real kids get the right to call him "Dad".
