I bought the ebook after watching this year's Academy Awards.  I'm having a very hard time with it, as I find it upsetting.  If it were fiction, I'd stop reading and move on, but it feels wrong to stop.  It's as if it's an insult to Solomon Northup's memory and he should not have suffered in vain.

This is why I very rarely read any nonfiction work about slavery or the Holocaust.

Yeah, I've been off and on reading "The Nazi Hunter." I feel the same way. It makes me feel SO awful to read, yet I feel like it's disrespectful to not read it. And I haven't even GOTTEN to the Holocaust part yet!

I don't think you feel you should have to read anything unless it is for work or for school. If you are not enjoying it, don't read it. Does not make you racist or uncaring.

I did watch the movie. It had some good parts but I was not blown away. Not sure if it deserved best picture or the best acting awards. It was upsetting to watch but no more so than any other serious topic movie. I already know about slavery and how bad it could be from other movies and first hand historical documents and books and history classes. So not like it told me anything I did not already know.
