Some people say they can't eat deer.  Others love it.  How about you?

I like it. Jerky is my favorite way to eat it, but I've used it in burgers, meatloaf, etc. I mix it with ground beef, though, because PM isn't as big a fan.

I like it, just don't currently know any hunters.

Had a bite several different times by several different cooks from several different deer at several different gatherings/events.

Every single time I stopped at the one bite... most times I ended up "inconspicuously wiping my mouth and depositing the mouthful into the napkin".

Venison is NOT for me.

We love it but while we know a few hunters, I think they like to take their guns for a walk versus bringing home dinner.

My parents love it. They know some hunters who hunt for fun and they always end up with extra deer meat and my parents always love to get it. They save it and they like making deer steaks or deer ground beef for like hamburgers. I have never tried it.

It is not my favorite, but I'll eat it. My dad was an avid hunter, but since he died we don't have a source. He was so found of it, he'd take the hearts and livers from the other guys who didn't want it.

You can really use venison in any recipe. I once made lasagna sauce with diced venison steak.

I'd rather have moose but yes, I love venison. It is a very lean meat and takes a bit of experience to cook well IMO. Same with moose.
Yum.

My mom hunts. We have a freezer full of venison. I, personally, am pretty tired of it. It has a sort of musky flavor that just gets tiresome. I try to mix it with other things, and heavily season it.

Last night I decided to make brown rice, pinto beans, and some meat so I could have huevos rancheros for breakfast this week. I took 1 lb of venison, 1.5 lb of hamburger, 1 onion, 1 bell pepper and lots of Penzeys Adobo Seasoning, and that pretty much hid the venison taste.

I have had no luck cooking venison any way but ground. I can't get it to be not tough.

Frooty, what does moose taste like?

My roast was a little tough, but it still had the bone in it. I didn't realize that for bone-in roasts (of any meat), you have to roast it on a lower temperature for a lot longer to get it tender. I have another venison roast in the freezer, so I will start the crockpot on low about 8am and just let it go. I may add a bit of meat tenderizer with the garlic and onion, too.

I have been told by wild game experts that it's helpful to marinate the roast in something acidic (buttermilk, wine, vinegar) to help tenderize it.

I had elk once and really liked it. I have been told that our deer in Alabama eat a lot of acorns, which makes their meat taste stronger/gamier than deer from areas where they eat more grass and corn.

We often use deer with pork in our homemade sausage - to cook and dried. This year we also had some extra that was ground that I mixed about 50-50 with beef for chili. I do like deer jerky as well.

garlic powder helps and I have heard to soak meat (not burger) in milk, but we never have done that, also it depends how it was hunted, if the animal was run and was all stressed the meast will taste more gamey.

and how it is cleaned and butchered.

we use wild meat just as we would beef.

it is wonderful grilled

with roasts use a roasting bag, it makes the meat so juicy and delicious, makes beef tender and tasty too

I used a roasting bag the one and only time I made a turkey and it turned out fabulously. I think I will give it a try for my other venison roast.
