A family friend is at the annual Mary Kay convention in Dallas. She's been blowing up FB with pictures and statuses about how she loves MK and her Pink Bubble. She's going to come back all revved up and start pestering everyone about parties and purchases.

I just had a Mary Kay demonstration on Tuesday, I had fun and actually bought some products.

The reason I had so much fun is that I was waaaay too weird for the lady doing the presentation and answered all of her questions honestly but in a funny way.

For example she was telling me I might like this other cream and gave me a little to try on my hand, I told her that it felt heavier than first one and didn't like it as much, then she tells me 'Ooooh you sure are kinestethic (sp)' and I answered yeah and I'm also a little crazy so that must have something to do with it LOL

Half the time she was looking at me like she was thinking where did she (the neighbor that invited me) found this crazy lady!

I have a a friend that sells Mary Kay too. Those ladies are all so gung ho - it's like a bizaar beauty cult. They never give up. I had one that continued to call me occasionally and send me mailers four years after I bought one or two things from her.

Desdenova, I'd almost go to another Mary Kay party if the other guests were goofing around like you did.

I tell people point blank that I do not attend or throw sales parties. If I want something I will look at a catalog and order from you but do not ask and harass me about sales parties.

My cousin is a director for Mary Kay - has been since the 70s. She's never pushed it at family parties or anything, though. It comes up in conversation like any other 'this happened at work' story, but that's it.

I think some of the 'they're over-the-top' reaction could be because people who make good Mary Kay/ Avon/ whatever representatives have naturally outgoing, perky, effervescent personalities that combined with the 'always put together' appearance can be a bit intimidating, off-putting, or annoying.

I just want to say I think the "Mary Kay" pink cars that some of the sales women drive are ugly. There are just some colors that don't look good on a car (as the whole or at least main color). Pink is one of them.

I can handle outgoing, perky, and effervescent.  I can't handle pushy and obsessed.  I have friends who to direct-sales and they NEVER push.  PM's cousin is a Premier Jeweler and she does offer sales and promotions, but only through her FB group, which you have to opt-into.

The neighbor that invited me is starting with the Mary Kay thing, her husband prefers that she stays home with their kid, and she's looking for some income, so I just went to check the things out and see if I can help her a little.

After almost a week of using the products I can say that I'm really liking them.

My mom used to sell Avon, and she was really good at it, she is the kind that will give you the catalog and without you noticing you have half of your stash of makeup from Avon... Maybe I'm a sucker for catalog shopping mmmmmmm
