Last year, I got Dad the new True Grit (the one with Jeff Bridges) for Father's Day. He'd fussed and complained and was just sure it could not possibly measure up to the John Wayne original. Turned out, he really enjoyed it. Told me, point by point, all of the differences, but conceded they'd done a really good job of remaking it, even though he'd been sure it would be terrible!
So, it's been laying on my DVD shelf since last fall. I finally watched it last night and it was very good.
But what it has me pondering now is: When I was 14, did I see the world in such black & white absolutes as Maddy did? Was I that boneheaded-stubborn and positive that I was right and anyone that disagreed with me was not only wrong, but immoral too?
I sure hope not! If I was, it's a wonder that teenagers survive to be adults.
Haven't seen either movie but I do remember seing the world in terms of right or wrong and not very many shades in-between. Looking back at it some of it was inexperience but I was also right about some things : )
