I love my friends I swear I do.

I had a lovely Sunday I truly did.  Great sermon at church, a nice nap afterwards, good food and fellowship with friends.  The weather was even perfect.  What more could I ask for?

Intellectual stimulation?  Sure, sure that sounds great.  So when my host asked me if I wanted to play chess I was pleased as punch.

Until we're in the middle of the game and he called his cheating "house rules"

HOUSE RULES?!  mutha effer this ain't UNO!  There are no 'house rules' in chess!

Chess is played by universally accepted rules.  Ok maybe not universe but globally at the very least.  You do NOT get to change the rules just because we're in your house.  I can't believe some people.

This was not a punch in the face offense but a slap?  A slap was sounding mighty good at the time.  No muscle confusion or anything.  I played it out in my mind and it was very satisfying.  Mom o' woulda been proud.

*swapap! --the hell is wrong wi' chou boi?!

You'll be pround to know that I didn't slap anyone AND that I had a quiet moment of introspection.  Violent tendencies towards two good friends in as many days is not a good thing.  Perhaps it's me.  If I get the urge to attack anyone tomorrow I may need to see someone about that.

What's the house rule change, asking becos some pepole play touch move and some don't, some let the pown turn into any piece ifn they reach the end and some oly let them become a captered piece. But yah ifn he tried to make a rook act like a night then I reckon you need another friend.

It's you ; )

Seriously, if you want to use different rules that should be discussed before the game starts.

REALLY?! Well, you learn something new every day. Or in my case every other day. I thought everybody in the world played chess the same way.

If you touch a piece you have to move it.
As long as you're still touching it you can move the piece to any legal spot on the board but once you let it go -that's your move.
You don't touch your opponents pieces or they get to slap you.
ummm no wait...that might not be a thing.
What I meant to say was; if you are going to adjust the pieces on the board you have to announce it first.
If you don't announce it first and you touch a piece then you have to move it.

You can't keep picking up pieces and moving them around to see what would happen! When my daughter started developing that bad habit (at the age of nine mind you) I taught her notation. If you want to go back and see what would have happened had you done something different you have to wait until the current game is over.

Yah, sorry to tell you but touch move is a high flootin tournament rule, I know cos my brothers real smart and he played in a tournament where thems the rules, not the hitting one but it should be cos I smacked my brother a coupla times. If ya wanna get really fancy pants there's also a clock your sposed to obey.

Way I reckon, you should be able to touch and not move, but once you let go that's it, but I'm easier like that.

I'm so proud. It brought a tear to my eye. You get 'em girl!wink I was lol all the way through this and then I got to the part about me and I thought I was gonna die. I was in tears. Rereading it still gives me a chuckle. Oh, and it's your friends not you lol. Nothing wrong with wanting to smack the crap out of someone who needs it. Just if you actually do itevileye. Even then it can be alright as long as there are no witnessessmile.

Farmer do you also 'string bet' in poker? That irritates the crap outta me.

Even so, I don't mind house rules in poker or monopoly or most games even backgammon if someone wants to introduce an interesting change I'm up for it. I guess I don't think of chess in the same way I think of other games.

Thanks for the insight Mom o'. I think my friends are safe as we tend to eat and socialize in groups. I'll keep in mind not to be alone with anyone particularly irritating until I get to the bottom of what is going on with me

If I do find myself alone with someome and happen to smack them I'll just count that as a freebie. No one would believe if if it never happened again.

I'm afraid that I'd overthink it and miss my opportunitiy. I'd be thinking 'is this my free chance to smack, do I really want to waste it or saveit for someone more deserving'

By the time I made up my mind they'd be gone.

Like - ohsh!t dq's getting that look in her eye again. I saw that look one day in the parking lot and whatsherface made haste. I better get gone.

By the time I made up my mind to redeem my freebie I'd be standing there by myself. *sigh
Perhaps I'm not decisive enough for spontaneous violence.

String betting in poker is when you keep putting your chips in front of you a little bit at a time so you can read the other person's reaction.

First you put out $5 then $10 then $20 until you see them flinch. If they don't flinch you take it back out again and act like you were kidding about how much you were gonna bet.

String betting = not cool.

The friend from lunch on Friday sent me a msg that could be read as an apology if I tried really hard to interpret it that way.

She doesn't actually admit that she was rude to me or apologize for it but she did say:

-yeah and I was a bit edgy and I could tell it was rubbing off on people so I left without hugs so ((hugs)) and congrats if I didn't say it.

I'm choosing to read this as:

-wow, I can't believe how rude I was to you. Sometimes it makes me nuts when I see everyone being happy for you and I feel the irrational need to pull the focus back to me. I recognized that I crossed a line too late and I truly am sorry. I'm happy for you and I love you. Please don't punch me in the face the next time you see me.
