My Unemployed Friend with the Husband that doesn't understand that their income has been halved and still spends money like a drunken sailor on shore leave had a couple of interviews and thought she was for sure going to get the job.
Sadly, they went with the other candidate, but told her it had been a hard decision. Been there, done that, it really sucks.....
So, I sent her her the commiserating, 'sorry to hear that' e-mail and her response was, 'It's OK, since she won't have to work, she can go to the gaming convention for the first week of August instead.' Out of state, so it's not something she could day-trip to.
I'm probably going to be getting the 'oh woe is us, we can't pay the mortgage and other bills' a week or so after that.

Husband hasn't given up going to 10-12 baseball games a month -- tickets, parking, food, beer, gotta be at least $100/game. Or any of his other expensive hobbies.
Since he spends money on 'fun' things, she thinks she has a right to spend equal amounts on her 'fun' things.
I've already gotten the 'poor, poor pitiful me, we can't pay the mortgage or other bills' tales of woe, two or three times since March. She's making withdrawals from their retirement accounts to pay the bills. So, obviously, they aren't learning the lessons.
OK, they're grown-ups and if they want to do this, it's their business, not mine. But I have to admit it irks the bejesus out of me, when I'm debating with myself about things like 'Should I buy this ball of crochet cord?' Or go to a movie. Something under $10 and she's planning a week that will be a $1000/minimum. Then will complain about being broke!
Eventually the unpaid bills will catch up with them. They can only live this way for so long before it all comes crashing down. Then it will get tough for you to bite your tongue and not remind her of these stupid choices.

I also would have no problem saying " i guess you shouldn't have spent all that money on non neccesities when you didn't have a job and knew the money was running out?" when she started calling and crying poor and they go into foreclosure.
I had a next door neighbor that spent like that when she was already behind on her rent and when she got evicted, I was not sympathetic at all...as she soon learned. People like that drive me nuts!
So, I got another e-mail from her today. The place she interviewed before has called her back about another position and really want her to come in for another interview. She's not sure she wants to, since if she got the job, it would interfere with this gaming convention.
::facepalm::
She also wants me to go to some stupidly expensive art show the next week. Don't think so....

She's been out since March. She would have to be crazy to consider not taking this, especially for a gaming convention. There will always be another one!

I will give you a dollar if you will tell her, to ask for time off to go to the gaming convention, in the interview
I'm sorry I missed the update on crazy yesterday. Wow, I get the idea of not wanting to miss a trip that is nonrefundable but I don't see that there are any expenses paid out at this point. Also, when it comes to losing money for a trip or giving up future income, I would think future income wins out.
I don't know for sure, but she more than likely has not paid for anything in advance -- she'd just pay the registration at the door -- and the hotel, meals and all shopping would be paid at the time. So, she's not out any money ahead of time.
Mary -- you have to wonder! Priorities are seriously askew. Considering she has another friend (also a gamer....) who chose to not work for months -- until his wife told him 'You need to get off your arse and get a job!!' -- and she saw no problem with it, maybe dumber than I think she is.
She sent me a listing for a job that would be right in my lane and requires a clearance. I applied for that, sent her a 'THANKS!' message and chatted a bit about the rest of the weekend. Haven't heard back from her.
She and her husband are going to Ocean City and two more baseball games this weekend.
On the more positive side -- I had an interview this morning. Part-time receptionist position, but better than nothing! And I applied for 2-3 more part-time jobs. Maybe I'll get more than one of them.
