This is kinda good timing. We have the weekend. EVERYONE gets a role and specialty. The thing is I made nearly so many roles you guys! The biggest game I've played here I think had about 15 people in it. I have roles for more than 24 with four more roles in mind and ready to go with character ideas already fully formed in my head.
Anyway if we don't get enough people it may take me a minute after the sign ups to eliminate players/powers to keep the game balanced.
I hope we do though. I'm very excited. Thanks for letting me jump up the line to narrate. I hope you like the game. I'm presenting:
DEXTER
Instead of the usual Mafia vs Townie, this game will have:
Team One: Miami Metro Police Department Team Two: Assorted Serial Killers (Mafia role) Team Three: Citizens of Miami (with special roles)
Each team has good guys and bad guys on it. Each team has their own objectives for winning. There can be individual wins and team wins.
As I said earlier (or meant to), this weekend is a little busy for us. That and I've never played this means I may need a bit of hand-holding. (Or be the first person snuffed out, whichever.)

Invite as many as you like Emm. I have enough roles created for anyone who wants to play.
For anyone who is not familiar with Dexter, it's an HBO show about a blood spatter analyst who works for Miami PD. He's also a serial killer but he only kills other serial killers.
All the characters are from the show up to season 5. I don't have tv so I have to wait for them to come out on dvd so I'm a little bit behind on the series.
True fans I hope you forgive me for the licences I've taken. I had to mix up the story to make everyone alive at the same time.
Two more people from your board might play as well so you may not be the only newb.
I'm sorta new myself, I've only played two full games. Got voted out first round in the other two I've played. My best advice is: pay attention to what phase we're in. You WILL get laughed at if you ynch vote at night
I will post the phase and end time in the thread tag line if you forget 'when' we are in the game.
The other thing I suggest is you break out a spreadsheet because this will not be a guessing game. There will be concrete clues to people's identities and based on what you find out you may want to save someone even if they're "bad".
oh winds, you will be missed. So sorry to hear you don't want to play with us. Maybe you will find another sand box that is more to your liking. *waves*
Nah, winds is just sharing her delightful self with us. She has so much to offer that it can not be saved just for those on zeta, it is overflowing and we are blessed with her wisdom.

And aren't we lucky that someone who doesn't even play is so invested in our little game
I do wish that she knew what she was talking about though because I've never played the game twice the same way. There aren't any established rules. So far each narrator has made up their own rules.
Each game is allowed to have it's own twists and turns and rules. Mafia game is a concept not a hard set official game that has to be followed exactly the same everywhere it is played. I'm sure everyone feels grateful that they have you to protect them from us big bad people over here, winds.
DDQM, another question. Whatever my role is, is my fate sealed at the beginning? Or do I have the ability to change my fate?
Example, say you assign me as Maxwell, photographer & gun collector extraordinaire. If you have me as the bad guy in your plan, do I have the ability to become the good guy?

Well, Dexter is a bad guy and a good guy at the same time. He's a serial killer that only kills other serial killers.
The fact that he's a killer makes him bad. But the fact that he only kills bad people makes him -not so bad-?
There is a character in the game Deb who upon a certain condition if she kills her brother Dexter will change teams she'll retire from MMPD and become a citizen. But for the most part you're on the team assigned to you in the beginning.
Sometimes in mafia there are traitors and other roles. I didn't put any double agents in this game.
Don't worry though. If you get put on the bad team you won't want to switch to innocent. The innocents get kept in the dark. The bad guys get to scheme. *rubs hands together mischeviously*
1. OR Rainy 2. Papa Bear 3. Kapper 4. Mom of half a dozen 5. Desdenova 6. Kalikat 7. EmmDee
Signups are through tomorrow. If we don't get enough to play the larger game I'll present a back up game. Alice made a good suggestion that I have a bomb at the beginning to kill off all the characters I don't need. I thought about it but I belong to a mafia site where the rule is you can't narrate until you've been a member for three months. I think this game is worth waiting for. So if we don't play it here, I'll link an invitation when it's my turn to present on the other site and anyone who wants can come play it there.
eta: oops sorry Emm

I actually suggested a mass murder, I did not specify the means of death. I'm sorry, but I am going to have to sit this one out. I have too much going on right now IRL.
I'm sorry we couldn't get enough here to play it but I would love to join the game on your other board. I think it will be a great game with all the work you put into it!

I was hoping you would get a bigger turn out too dqm. I look forward to playing it on the mafia board, though I worry it could turn into another board addiction.
I seriously doubt it Mom o'. They play waaaaaay differently over there than we do here. It's not a casual 'oh this is fun I could get addicted to this' type of site.
A typical day phase is 2 weeks! I was like wtf are you guys doing for TWO WEEKS?! I really don't know. I couldn't get a good answer. But they take their modding seriously and they don't want someone to start a game and abandon it in the middle so they make sure they have a real committment from you before they let you host.
Each mod gets to make their own game so I'm cool there but when I present mine I'm not sure they're going to know how to handle it.
I mean I'm not waiting two effin weeks for a reveal! I asked; if one day takes two weeks how long are the games? Ummm hmmm about three months?
LMAO! No wonder they make you be a member of the site for three months before you can mod. That's how long it takes to play one of their games!
Seriously, I asked if they have any quicker games. This was the reply:
4) If you want a 24 hour deadline, this... really isn't the site for you. I'm not trying to push you away, but if you're wedded to short deadlines, this isn't how this site plays mafia at all. The Micro Queuehas some smaller, faster games, but even there you're talking 10-14 day "days" and 24-48 hour nights.
I wanted to say - uh Dude, you do realize that 14 days is still two weeks don't you? LMAO! But I didn't. They seem nice enough but for the love of chicken nuggets I don't understand how they have the patience. I was also going back through old games to see how many people are in these games making them take so long. I bet you're thinking -oh man something like 60 right? NOPE Not that many more than here. Between 7 and 26 from what I can find.

Depends on your play style. Where you play, they play one way. Here, we're more analytical than most sites. We like to take a look at the data, judge it, post it (and potentially vote/re-vote), have everyone else judge it, judge it again by yourself, post again (with another vote maybe), and repeat until lynch.
I didn't respond. I didn't know what to say but here at home I was cracking up! This would drive me nuts. Especially the first day because really. I mean REALLY! C'mon there's nothing to go on. Just friggin VOTE already ROFLMAO! But like I said they're really nice and their site has been around forever so they must have something good going on.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention an interesting twist they have; a player has to get 50%+1 of the votes to get lynched. So a simple majority will not result in a lynching and they have to keep voting and revoting and revoting until they get one.
I still don't know what they're analyzing that much on the first day.
That is interesting dqm. Maybe we can get them to come around to our way of thinking when we play your game. I promise to do lots of strategizing like they do (I usually do anyway) just to keep them interested. Maybe some will decide to do a shorted Day/Night phase now and then.
I welcome a more analytical game. But there has to be something to go on. I can't see being 30 pages in on the first day. These people must have incredible foreplay! Either that or their spouse is already at work the next day before they're ready to get down to business.
