Where are you on the global fat scale?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18770328

I read that a healthy BMI for an adult woman is somewhere between 18.5 and 25

I have a BMI of 20. That makes me kinda happy.  I've always thought of myself as kinda skinny-no hips, no boobs, not much in the way of curves.  Don't get me wrong I'm happy with myself but this was nice to learn.  That I'm in the 'normal' range.  I wasn't worried though.  I've had healthy babies and breast fed them allsmile

I read it another way and found that I have a lower BMI than 92% of females aged 30-44 in the US.  At first I wasn't sure if that meant I'm too skinny.

And that I have a lower BMI than 74% of females in that age range in the world.

I found this factoid funny: If everyone in the world had the same BMI as me, it would remove 40,649,102 tonnes from the total weight of the world's population.

Compared with other females aged 30-44, I'm most like someone from Sri Lanka.

With the exception of four pregnancies I've been this same weight and height since I was 16 years old.

I was dismayed to see that I had a BMI higher than 99% of every other woman in the world. Then I saw that I put my weight in kilograms. Evidently 110 kilograms is a lot! Especially if you are only 5 feet tall.

My BMI is 27 which is likely accurate because I don't have much muscle, I'm rather happy with that number because my parents say I'm grossly obese. Which I'm not. I'm 77% higher than the rest of the world.

My husband's is 35 but I don't know what the healthy range is for men. I'm assuming it's higher than the women's but then again I don't know. Because women have babies they 'need' more fat so maybe men's should be lower.

I'm a 27 but I am definitely more muscular than I was when I was younger. For me to be a 25 I need to lose about 15 pounds, 10 is my current goal so I may just never get to the suggest BMI.

According to that website, I have a 37BMI.

Which puts me 100% higher than the rest of the men in the world.

Proof positive that the calculator is flawed (at 6'1" and 280, there's no WAY I have a higher BMI than EVERY OTHER MAN on the planet. We have a guy my height staying at the motel right now that's my same height, that outweighs me by a good 50 pounds)

Are you sure you set the calculator to pounds (I had the same issue until I correctly figured it in pounds)?

Yup. Set to pounds & feet/inches.

I think 100% means you are in the highest group. It can't possibly mean that YOU are the highest.

Unless the "highest group" is inclusive of EVERYONE more than "just a few pounds over", I don't think that's the case. There are many people that make me look "bean skinny" by comparison (Sumo wrestlers come to mind).

Richard, I'm guessing that it just means yours is higher than between 99.5% and 100% of the world population in your age/height group.  Not ethat the percentages in all the results are in whole numbers, so they are likely rounding up or down in the standard fashion.

Kind of peculiar to read, though.
