I really want to buy these 4 oz spice jars to sandblast designs in but I need to justify them with a purpose that I can market them for.

Shoot me ideas how ever out there they may be.

They are beautiful. I love the idea of christmas gifts. How big are they? I have a book that suggests you give the dry ingredients for making a cake or biscuits in a fancy jar with an attached instructions label. Okay i just noticed you mentioned the size early on. You could make a custom spice mix to put in the jars. A curry one, or a christmas one. I do like the idea of bath salts. Um a bride and groom design? Spices? Coloured bath oil Coloured sand Small sweeties.

Can you market them as spice jars? Etch the name of the spice into them with a pretty design on the rest of the bottle?

Aardvark, I know, the obvious right? I was thinking of that but I want to have at least 4-5 ideas for uses before buying 120 of them in a case.

I was thinking desk organization - paper clips and thumbtacks. My goal would be to have 4-5 bottles with stuff in them as display at the craft show to kind of convince people they need them.

Also, if I did spice jars, should I do them as individual jars, make sets up to sell bundled? What spices do you think I should do?

I think that you can also use them to put glitter or small craft things in them.
Maybe fill them with colored water and hang them as an ornament or even Christmas ornaments if you put that kind of design on them.
You could put the words "Drink Me" on them, kind of like the one from Alice in Wonderland.
A receptacle for smelling salts? Or if someone makes their own bath oils or bath salts they could be used to hand out samples or gifts for favor bags.

I'll think of more later :D

I like the bath salts idea, I can go get some real cheap and fill up a bottle or two. That would make a nice little gift for someone if they like making up gifts for people. Pretty little jars to put stuff like homemade or store bought bath stuff. Great idea Des!

If you can do etchings on them, do wedding or party favors. For a wedding, you could do sand in the couples colors or birdseed for the guests to throw. Or at least have the items for them to do themselves.

The jars have no shelf life, and prices are going only up. Whatever doesn't occur to you now will later, so get them now.

PB, that is a good point. Finances are tight though so I do like to feel good about purchases right now.

Realistically what would you, general, pay for an etched bottle of that size?

What kind of etchings could you do on a bottle that size?

I don't know the regulations on actually filling them myself with seasonings but I just want to fill them with some stuff to spark interest.

I am interested by your ideas.

This might be a bit strange.... have you seen those LED Light stands .

Perhaps you could display your bottles on these and let the colours show how beautiful they are.

Do you think they would look good on them?

Um would it work to sell a bottle of "love" or "hugs" You could do some fancy etching on the glass and then have a tag with it that says that it contains a kiss/hug/love/good thoughts/strengh for hard times.......

Lets face it we all want you to buy the bottles

I would have to just try it to see. The bottles wouldn't be as prismatic as the crystal and however it is they get the image inside of it.

I do like the idea and I don't typically think that cutesy in my mind. I can totally "see" it at a craft show though.

Are your bottles clear bottomed after you are done?

If they are, glue some wrinkled up aluminum foil (shiny side up/out) to the top of the lid to act as a refractor (if you use one of those light pedestals).

For spice jars, you could make up a set of four, with the basics like oregano, basil, thyme, and sage. You could do other spices like tarragon individually upon request. What about a set for bakers? I've seen spice racks filled with nothing but decorative sprinkles and sugars. There's always the old standby - salt and pepper shakers.

To maximize exposure, you could do a local craft show and have your creations on display with signs emphasizing that you can do custom orders.

Oh, and check Pinterest. PM me your email address if you need an invite.

OMG Aardvark you have the perfect idea.

DO little Fairy dust jars with Fairy sprinkles in them.  They would be perfect for gifts for Fairy parties or for little girls that loooooove fairies.  I want one now.

Check out this web site she does a range of fairy dust (glitter), Cupid dust, tooth fairy dust and some suggested labels - http://juneberry-lane.blogspot.com.au/2012/01/cupids-love-dust-and-three-free.html

Except yours will be more awesome because you will be etching the glass.

The fairy dust and the basic spice jar ideas are very good. Maybe with the herbs, you could do the name of the herb and shape of the leaf. Colored cake sprinkles might be very pretty, if you did the etched part alternating with clear stripes around the circumference of the bottle.

You guys are all really good at this and are making it very hard to not go buy them. Maybe I will just buy one case, the guy says he has like 21 cases. Each case has 120 bottles in it.

Oh, back to price, I need to make sure that I could actually make money at this. Full retail on these bottles would be about $1 a bottle. Could I realistically sell them for $3-4 per bottle depending on design?

If presented properly... that price shouldn't be a problem...

Maybe even $4 each or 4 for $12

I saw a little vial of glitter once, but instead of fairy dust, it said, "Edward Cullen's Ashes."

Okay, I am totally obsessed with thinking of ideas for these. DIY recipes abound on the internet - candles, body scrubs, lip balms, etc. Depending on the cost-effectiveness of whatever you want to put in the bottles, you could design bottles for that item. (And charge more).

Ohhhh Candles is a good idea! (might need slightly bigger bottles though... to get enough air down into the burning area)

Another idea came to me - what about using them as containers for tiny little seed-like beads? Beading is very popular right now.
