Dishwasher detergent recommendations needed!

I am soooo irritated! I'm using Cascade right now and nothing ever gets clean. I rinse things off but if there is the tiniest piece of gunk left it is still there after running the dishwasher. Glasses are covered in a dull film. If I have to wash everything by hand afterwards - what is the point? Please help!

We use the cascade pods at work. They are expensive, but do a good job. For the cloudiness on the glasses - Could your rinse dispenser be empty?

I think I used a pod with Dawn in them before but maybe I am making that up. Has it always been this way? I never used a rinse agent in my condo and have to say I never had an issue with cloudiness. I did tend to wash by hand more often than using the dishwasher though.

On the rare occasions that we actually use our dishwasher (I think it's just easier to do dishes by hand... and The Wife agrees), we use "Finish" dishwashing cubes

Thank you for the suggestions. The problem has been constant. The current detergent has a rinse aid as a part of the mixture but I have now filled up the rinse dsipenser just the same. I'll let you know if it makes any difference. I will look for Dawn pods and Finish cubes as well.

Do you think you have hard water that may be making the detergent less effective?

Do you perhaps have a husband or children you could pass dishwashing on to? Maybe make them do dishes by hand? biggrin

Could be the industry change to no phosphate dishwasher detergent.

I am so far from domestic competency I hesitate to offer advice.

But I noticed that my dishwasher was just not getting things clean enough, and that the glasses looked filmy. I washed the inside of the dishwasher with baking soda (being careful to wipe carefully around the drain, gaskets and corners), then ran it through a cycle with nothing inside, and have been very happy with the result. I plan to do this every now and again, hopefully before the dishes start to look unsavory...

Hamster, do you hve a water softener?  The first indicator for me that I'm either out of salt or that the water softener isn't working is poor dishwasher performance.

Aha! Some very good leads here!!

I filled the rinse dispenser and the glasses look MUCH better but things are still not getting clean. (As an aside, if the dishwasher detergent contains a rinse, why should one need extra rinse aid?) Will try the bakingsoda cleaning this weekend as well as investigate the status of the water softener.

I think Evil may have the winning concept though : ) : )

At my house the concept is good. Execution not so much. I am so looking forward to the day when we have an automatic dishwasher!
