So..Who is Going Christmas Shopping the Day After Thanksgiving?

Are any of you going to brave the crowds for the chance of a big bargain?  Or do you decide after you see the ads?

Or does anybody still get a newspaper delivered?biggrin

I emailed three friends last week to see who was up for it.  I am not in the market for anything, but if they are I'm willing to get up as early as 4 am as long as we are at Perkins for Eggs Benedict by 10.

I may or may not... depends on what's available as one of Walmart's "door busters" that you have to wait in line for several hours from Midnight until they decide "it's time to sell", for. I'm up those hours anyway. It's a good way to kill some time.

I've found that shopping on Friday NIGHT isn't all that bad. Yeah, the BIG sales may be done and the merchandise has been picked over but if I know what I want I can find it. The sales staff is usually well rested and nice.

I do try to do most of my shopping on-line these days. Makes it easier.

I think DH and I are going. He comes home on the 20th for Thanksgiving and doesn't leave until the 25th. I lined up a sitter for the kids. We will probably be back before they even wake up.

We did it last year because we were on vacation for Thanksgiving in a town with stores. We're staying home this year and thus not shopping as there is no place to shop.

Meh, my kids are 1/2 grown or flown already so Christmas isn't that big of a deal anymore.

Oops... I just realized I mis-posted (a little bit).

If I decide to go, I won't be "Christmas Shopping"... whatever "door buster" I wait in line for will be for ME. I don't Christmas shop until the week of Christmas. Less worry about the people finding out what they got, that way.

So do you live in a house full of "Super Snoopers", Richard? If you get the "door buster" you want then at least you know you'll get something you like even if it's from you to you.

I know exactly where DH has my gifts stored (he didn't hide them that well, I can see the bags) but I could not be bothered to look at them.

Why would someone want to ruin the surprise?

DS (14) told me he would never snoop either because he likes the surprise. I'm pretty sure he hasn't snooped because I've never noticed any changes in how I left things.

Now my DD was a PRO at snooping. I got to the point where I had to leave her gifts in my mom's attic until the 23rd - I'd go over and wrap them there and then take them home before dinner on the 24th.

I'm pretty much done shopping - just a few things I need to get for two of our three daughters (one's gifts are all bought & our grandsons gifts are bought & son-in-law's, too) but haven't gotten around to hitting up those particular stores yet & I need some stocking stuffers for DH & DS.

Last year DS's xbox broke the day before Thanksgiving so he & I headed out to Gamestop Thanksgiving night and waited in line for their midnight opening so he could get a new one on sale.
He paid for most of it himself because he had money on his Gamestop rewards card and had some gift cards left from his birthday. I had to chip in $50.
That was his first experience with Black Friday. He said he thinks he can do without that experience again. LOL!

I went once, a couple of years ago.

The females of our family head out about 6 a.m., hit a Starbuck's for breakfast, then go to 2 - 3 malls. My sister had assured me it would be only maybe four hours MAX of shopping, so I thought I could stand it, especially if we went to a fabric store I wanted to hit.

Mid-afternoon we straggled home, me in a condition of boredom & back pain which I tried to conceal. Never again, I swore to myself (that's how I swear).

I went once and hated it. The crowds were insane, wall to wall people and then the lines. Ugh. I would not do it again.

The day AFTER Thanksgiving?

Last year it was after dinner Thursday night.

Walmart was handing out free 5hr energy drinks to shoppers.

I would prefer to open this desk drawer, stick my head in, and slam it very hard.

But have fun y'all!

Oh, Huck, I could not have said it any better!

No, no, no, no. I will have a house full of people and I can bet at least 2 will be whining to go. They have my blessing to skee-daddle, but I will NOT be with them. No.

I used to. It's fun, but this year I think I'll be done with my shopping before then.

Do you not get a bonus RTL?

My husband gets a bonus but it's usually the first or 2nd week of December so he can't use it on Black Friday.

I'd suggest he go ahead and prespend it out of savings and just replace it but I never know how much it's going to be so that's out.

I don't have an employer so I don't get a bonus. One year I thought about doing a special for my tennants where if the paid their rent on time and in full for a full year that I would give them 10% off their rent in December.

It never happened though because it was too complicated. It was a good thought though.

You couldn't pay me to go out before 3pm. People are seriously nuts around here! I'm planning on getting the house decorated.

I'm going to go in the afternoon. We'll actually be in the US because we have appointments in the morning. We'll see if there's anything good left! Either way, we need some stuff.

Yeah, the idea pretty much horrifies me. But it easy for me to avoid, since I don't have a lot to buy anyway.
