A friend of mine sells it and just invited me to FOUR different open houses over the next few weeks.  I have absolutely no interest in paying Clinique prices for Cover Girl-quality products.  The whole organization is a pyramid scheme, in my opinion.  I am going to have to tell her to stop, because I know that if I go, not only will I be badgered to buy, but also to join her as an "independent" beauty consultant.

I so appreciate the Avon lady who goes to our church. I didn't even know she sold it until she delivered an order one morning, as she doesn't push or advertise it.

I don't mind the ones that put out books for those who are interested in looking.

I do agree that the others are annoying.

I don't wear make up but I like Mary Kay parties. They're fun. A friend of mine owned a boutique down town and she'd have parties in her store after hours. It was fun. She moved thoughcry

I miss her.  She'd have after hours sales in the shop that night and everyone would get dressed up and then go to the party and get completely made up and we'd try on clothes and jewelry and drink mimosas.  Even other Mary Kay ladies would come to her parties and invite their friends.

That actually sounds like a lot of fun dqm! My friend is REALLY, REALLY pushy about it and it is not fun.

That does sound like a good time, I would probably go to one like that. I think pushy people would sell more if they were a bit less pushy. When someone comes at you like that all you want to do is get away, you're not interested in looking at their product. A pushy seller may get an order right out of the gate but after that everyone is going to know to run when they see them coming. It isn't a good long term plan.

A while back I went to a Mary Kay party that a friend had. Her Mary Kay rep kept sending me flyers and calling me for over two years. Pushy is so annoying.

The only reason I buy make up is when I go looking for the stuff I bought last year and can't find it. Typically (unless it's a dress up party or a fancy wedding) I only wear make up once a year.

So I'm wondering...how often do you think they should call? Since I've had the same tube oflipstick for 4 years I have no idea how long it would normally last. Actually I have two tubes because two years ago I couldn'tfind it so I bought another one and then last year the first one reappeared. So this year I have two. Yay me. The mascara (from rite aide) sucked big time because I could only open it with pliers. And I didn't feel pretty so maybe I will get one of those again.

I don't bother with eye shadow. I just take the lipstick and put it on my finger and smear it on my eyelids. Sometimes I do the same with the cheeks. It's like finger painting my face.

This is NOT what we do at the mary k parties. They do it all fancy. But at home I just start smearing until it looks good and then I don't do it again until the next year.

Oh yeah.. eyeliner. I forgot that one. I like eye liner but it always gets in my eyes. It is pretty though. Especially in pictures.

They have some make up gurus on the other board. Maybe I should get one to come over here and help us out lol.

I don't wear makeup much anymore. A couple times a year maybe? I put on foundation, then eye shadow, then blush (I use creme eye shadow and it doubles as blush, so it is also like face paintingbiggrin), last I put on mascara. I don't wear lipstick, just lip balm. That routine used to be enough when I was a teenager. It doesn't look the same now that I am 30. The foundation starts coming off after a couple hours. I know I need better products but don't know where to start. There is so much stuff!!! I don't even know what some of it doesno.

Same here, Mom. Lol. I do own makeup but gave up and don't wear it anymore. Well, I do wear it to job interviews, don't want them thinking I am some sort of dirty hippie or something:)

about 20 Years ago when I was working full time and going to college this Mary Kay lady  called me EVERY DAY, several times  a day for  2 months.  I had mistaklenly  given her my phone number when I met her at the drug store I worked at but then changed my mind as her pushiness was such a turnoff.  Plus I had no money and no time.

I told her all of this  but she still called CONSTANTLY.    I  was afraid to answer my phone, that's how bad it was, so I finally looked up their home office in my area and called and reported her.  I told them I would file harrassment charges  if she didn't stop.

She  had the nerve to call me about 6 months later, and when I realized who it was I said  "What is your Fvcking defect?  what about I will file harrassment charges if you call again" do you not ubderstand??  Do NOT call me ever again."    I hung up and  never heard from her again.

yeah.....  Not to good of experiences with Mary Kay....

Ugh, I had a pushy MK lady call my dorm room daily to set up a time for a party. Stupid me entered a drawing for a free makeover for me and five friends. Yeah, everyone who entered won that one. I never really had the time to schedule it and she KEPT calling. She had an answer for everything. I ended up leaving school at the end of the semester...I wonder if she pestered the new girl who moved into my old room.

I had a traumatic experience in my early 20s with an Avon lady, and won't repeat that with any other type of private seller parties. Sure, sale booklets left at work or shared among family/friends where I can pay and get my stuff, and be pretty much anon. are ok. Or, like recently when I really really wanted a certain Tupperware item and went looking for a seller among family/friends. But that's IT.

And when people get pushy, I tell them about my "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad" experience and they never, ever bother me again!! :D

UGH - she emailed me this morning and asked if I'd be a Coffee Hostess. All I have to do is invite some friends to my house and make a pot of coffee. I am NOT exposing my friends to a constant barrage of pushy sales tactics. I like my friends and intend to keep the feeling mutual!

There were several Mary Kay women at my college (we're talking ancient history here). We learned to recognize them by their strange orange faces and avoided them religiously; they would start putting stuff on your face and planning parties at your house if you gave them the slightest encouragement.

I'm sure the products must have improved, as no company could stay in business making everyone look orange.

I periodically resolve to wear at least lipstick every day but after a few weeks go back to my slatternly ways.

And you're right, Mom, I don't even know what many of the products are supposed to do these days. Makeup seems to have gotten more complicated.

What would be a fun make up party?

I don't wear make up but I like parties. I wore make up to a dress up party last year.
I have a picture somewhere.
