I don't really, although our cookbook project has been a success. We ended up printing and binding in-house and saved ourselves over $5 a book. We've made almost $600 for the roof fund so far and we still have 100 or so to put together and sell. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback on it, so as long as we sell out, I'll be satisfied. It was a LOT of work, but it's worth it.

Well, my Christmas present from DH arrived a couple of days ago, and we've been getting acquainted. It's a bass recorder. It joins my alto, soprano, and tenor in keeping me humble. (My skills, while improving, are marginal).
Oh, and we also might be getting a new sofa. To replace what we got when we were first married...35 years ago!
Kinalika, congrats on the bass! I bought mine a couple years ago and I LOVE it! I try to play as often as possible in my classes & consorts; I just love the richness of the tone.
What brand did you get? My alto, tenor, sopranino, and garklein are Aulos but my soprano and bass are Yamaha. I find my Yamaha soprano to be quite superior my old Aulos one, but it's also about 20 years newer.
They are all Yamaha. I should probably replace my soprano as it is a gaudy blue and the others are proper brown and white. (I bid on an Aulos 2 weeks ago but it went beyond my pocketbook; the Yamaha didn't go as high as I expected and I got it for what I consider a very good price) (to clarify: I bought it on ebay)
My alto I have had the longest by far...about 36 years. It remains my favorite since I am the most comfortable with it. I am becoming more familiar with the soprano. I have had the tenor less than a year and we're still developing a relationship. I am taking it slow because my hands don't take kindly to being stretched. With the bass, I remembered something I learned on an earlier borrowed bass...I employ my pinkie on my left hand instead of my ring finger. Much more comfortable.
Sorry for the hijack but I love to talk about recorders!
(what is a garklein?)
(I have a friend who has 2 cats who, when she practices at home, will get into really awful fights with each other. It used to be it was only the sopranino, but yesterday, the alto set them off!)
A garklein is an octave higher than a soprano and nobody ever plays it at all. It's meant to add "color" to a piece of music.
Is your tenor keyed? Mine isn't but my mom just got one that is and the reach is much easier. I find the reach on mine to be worse than the bass!
I think alto is my favorite voice because of its versatility. My sister and I play a duet every year for our chapter concert and we almost always play them on altos. I have a fabulous Telemann collection for two altos that we use all the time.
My dream is to someday own (read: afford) a great bass and a contrabass. Our chapter has maybe seven great basses and three contras and they are so incredibly awesome!
Okay, no more hijacking, back to topic! Exciting news for the RareEyre house... well, Psych season six is on Netflix at last, which totally made my month! I think I actually jumped for joy when I saw it!
My tenor has the double C/C# keys, but i thought that was standard. Another friend had a key retrofitted but I've never really looked at it, even though we play together on a regular basis. Whatever she had done, she is very pleased with it. (Von Huene did it)
What sort of groups do you play with, and, if you don't mind sharing, where are you? (I'm in eastern PA)
After six years, my dining room is finally painted! WOO HOO! LOL! DH & our son-in-law finished it yesterday - now I can't wait to go home so I can put everything back and redecorate for Thanksgiving.

My tenor is unkeyed, but I did buy it back in the 90s, so maybe it's a standard feature by now. I think if I needed to have keys fitted I'd just get a new tenor and upgrade to a Yamaha, since it wouldn't be much more expensive to do so.
I am part of a chapter of the American Recorder Society in westernish NY. We meet often and have skill-level classes and other specialty classes (like Sacred music, dance music, contemporary, etc.) for people of all skill levels. One of these days I'd like to put together a little quartet side group for fun, but it's hard to find time with everyones' crazy schedules. We always record our Spring Concerts and if I can get a piece or two to upload anonymously to YouTube, I'll post a link!

What a great feeling! I love what a fresh coat of color can do to a room. Were they painting over an unliked color or that builder's-grade white base that new houses always have?
How much snow did you get? It must have been the really wet heavy snow. Maybe you can look for a bright side and when you rebuild, make it even better.

An unliked color - tan - it was probably nice at first but over the years it faded and was very depressing.

We ended up with around 4' of very heavy wet snow but also had drifts of 72". The deck was one of those places that got the 70+" drifts. It broke the railing first and blocked the steps and then blocked the door so shoveling was impossible before it fell.
It wasn't my roof so I am feeling a lot less sad about it.
My kid just got a perfect score on the NJASK (standardized state test to test math, science and language arts)...I am so proud of her I almost wept!

That's awesome, 42! Congratulations to your DD!
Thank you. I know that made me sound like a braggy twit but I am thrilled! She has to take the SSAT in a few weeks so I hope she blows that out as well. I am trying to get her into private boarding school.
The Hussy Sisters! Sounds like a be-bop duo, doesn't it?
Do you remember that thread? the details escape me, but I remember taking note of the very large percentage of women on Michigan Avenue violating whatever the decreed number of inches above the knee was among the very adamant majority of posters

It may be a thread I where I posted a picture of a dress I was going to buy, it was a tunic dress and people swore it was too short. Of course it was pictured on a model who was probably 5'10", since I am three inches shorter it would hardly have been the same look. I did buy the dress and actually wore it to meet a peep. I get a lot of complements on that dress.

I remember someone posting about wearing a tunic dress and their daughter told her it was too short and then the thread kind of exploded...was that one yours?

It may have been. But the stupid **** the board would jump off on was just, just, just unfreakin believable!

Another small excitement--I happened to stop in at the Illinois ARts & ARtisans store at the train station and found a lovely little metalwork Nativity scene that will make a perfect gift to Mr. Huck on the occasion of our (imagine!) 29th wedding anniversary

Huck! I did not now you were "that old". Not unless you were a teenaged bride
Well it's OFFICIAL!!!! We have some amazing but at the same time shocking news.... I'm expecting :) 6 weeks and counting!!! I know, I am in shock too. I can hardly believe it myself. I wasn't going to post it here but since you are my wonderful friends and some like family I wanted to make it official. I'm too overwhelmed to keep it a secret! Who would have guessed that me of all people would be expecting, but I sure am!!!!!!!!!! We are expecting Santa in just 6 weeks..... My girlfriend just got me good. Thought I'd share the funny.
This isn't earth shattering or even going important in a few weeks but my area is moving desks....again. I have moved only 3 times in my 10 years here. Once was when I changed departments. The funny thing is that the area we are going to is the same area that I started in. I have been at this desk for 2 years and actually liked it. Two of the others with me have moved every 2 years.
At least we got a week's notice this time. Last time I had to move, we were told we were supposed to have been out the week prior. Today is the only day that I am in this week so today is moving day.
My excitement is that my DH and DS 3 months and I went on a shopping spree Sunday. Apparently I should shop w/ a major migraine more often. We needed furniture since we bought a house -- we had moved 8 times in 5 years and so had pared down our furniture to the bare minimum. We got a fridge, couch, kitchen table, a kitchen aid mixer (Merry Christmas to me!!!) and an Apple TV. Everything was on sale much cheaper than we had thought so we were very excited. Now I'll have a table to feed DS at soon and we don't look like an old couple with our 2 recliners in the living room and no other seating!
