I have decided to try my hand at painting in addition to sandblasting. I am taking wine bottles and painting designs, creating knotted net holders and adding a hummingbird feeder tube. I've been playing with various floral designs and am happy with them. Butterflies are kind of hard for me yet. Going to try dragonflies next. What ideas can you think for me to try?

Bumble bees, leaves, birds. Are you doing silhouettes or painting with detail?

Some detail as I am getting better at using the brush. I had never painted before. Somewhere in between silhouette and detail. Also, bonus points for any examples on glass so I can disect the brush strokes.

Been ok, have been kind of busy changing up life a bit. I also stepped back from my online life a bit and focusing on spending time with DBF. How are things in your world dqm?

Love those ideas and really the only one I think I may have issues with is the cardinal but could probably do it as well. I love the hibiscus and could put that on the bottles too. Great finds tiger lily!

Since some are going to be hummingbird feeders... what about honeysuckle flowers?

Good idea Richard, I will have to practice some brush strokes to figure out how to do it.

Ocean themes and nautical things are pretty popular. I think a lighthouse would look really cool on the side of a wine bottle. You could go with all kinds of tropical fish, octopii, starfish, some strands of seaweed. You could do some sets where the wine glasses are each different, but in the same theme, to make it easy for people at a gathering to tell which glass is which. So maybe a pitcher or bottle with a few fish, seaweed, ocean floor at the bottom etc. Then a set of glasses, each with a different fish. You could do a trellis on a bottle or pitcher, then have the glasses each with a different flower, or at least a different color flower.

Similar to sandblasting idea....you could look into etching on glass. You can be as detailed as you want and can use etching creams (tend to not be as deep) or tools....

all good.  Just welcomed my first GrandPrincess into the world so excited about that.

I like the ideas here.  I'm not the crafty/creative type but I love seeing things people have made so I hope you share your finished product with us.

On another board that I'm on someone offered up a gift card as a contest prize for a specific craft project.  Mine was so pitiful and impractical I didn't even enter it aww but it was fun.

How the hell do you get on the Richard gift list?

An engraver is a very nice present.

LOL... that's easy.

You have to be a good person that's never unduely insulted me or others that I know about... and I have to have your address.

BUT... being on the list is no guarantee of being picked... With the exception of people that are "assigned" to me (like Secret Santa assignments)... everyone else, if I've seen a hint of something that might be appropriate for them, goes into a random draw... and then I spend down the list until I run out of funds that I had pre-allocated.

Worthy of note... once you are on the list, you have to maintain being a good person in my eyes to STAY on the list. There are people that (unbeknown to them) have been removed.

Hehe Richard, I have been itching to try the engraver you sent me. I have seen some videos on doing sandblasting and then adding depth by engraving. I will have my sandblasted set back up in a couple of weeks and I will give it a try then

What the Tiger flower said...

Some "insults" are just a phraseology issue... some are personal. I don't recall any personal ones towards me... nor towards anyone else (that weren't deserved).
