Just got back in touch with an old friend *Grace.

It's been YEARS So many in fact that I don't remember that much about her except for the really weird stuff. At the time Grace and I were friends she had the weirdest family tree of anyone that I had ever met.

Her mother was widowed with two daughters, Faith and Love. Her mother married the paternal cousin of her deceased husband. (Same last name) Her mother and father then had two daughters together, Hannah and Hope.

When her mother was pregnant with her, Grace, she discovered that teenaged Faith was also pregnant. By her husband who was step father and cousin to her daughter. She kicked him out and ended up raising all six girls. The youngest two although nearly 4 months apart were raised as twins until kindergarten. I remember asking Grace if Peach (all the rest of the names are made up but that was the baby's real name) was her niece, her sister or her cousin. She said -when you're related in more than one way you pick the closest so she's my sister.

Well alrighty then... The weirdest twist in our family tree is that my older brother and my husband's older sister have a child together. Therefore she is my niece by blood and by marriage (not technically since they never married but you know what I mean.) My kids have a double first cousin. Any weird relationship combos in your family?

My family is pretty small and boring, so no odd relationships. Many years ago, my brother dated DH's stepsister, but I didn't know they were related then.

My 2 uncles are pretty far apart in age- maybe close to 15 years. Youngest got married before the oldest. Oldest started seriously dating new aunt's mom. They eventually broke up, but that would have been interesting!

My daughter just added a twig to a convoluted family tree.

My sonIL's parents both have the same step father. He's not the bio father of either of them and he's no longer married to either mother. He's now married to a third wife but all three of his wives have his last name.

I still get a little bit confused over who is who. And I get so nervous about calling one of them by the wrong name.

My sister in law is married to her (and DHs) step brotherbleh. DHs dad is married to idiots (that's my pet name for him... because he is an idiot) mom. Their parents were married for years before they (sil and idiot) got together. I try not to think about it because I find it ickywink.

My Grandpa had an older sister. Older sister had a baby out of wedlock, this was not done then. Baby was raised by their mom as a brother.

My daughter has two what I call "double cousins".

My oldest brother married a very nice woman.

She had a younger brother that I married.

So you have a brother and sister marry a brother and sister.

They had kids and I had a child.

Double cousins.

 They use to be.

I divorced the brother, my husband, many years ago.  And to clinch the deal, he very conveniently passed away several years ago.  Could not have happened to a more deserving person.

 *giggle snort!

You would think that holiday plans are easier when it's a double pairing like that but it's still the same relationship/family stuff that other families have only you can't ever escape to the "other side" because they're over there too.
