Disney pulled the new Merida from their website and reposted the old version.  They have not made any announcements but the original Merida is back, at least for now.

Merida was the main character in Brave, the movie.  Disney made her older and sexied her up for their website and toys.  There was a backlash.

that's awesome! i loved the fact that brave was so different and seemed to have a better message than some of the other movies (even if i love those too).

That's good news. While there is nothing wrong with princesses, it's nice for little girls to have other kinds of Disney characters to admire.

Here's an article:

http://www.csmonitor.com/The-Culture/Family/Modern-Parenthood/2013/0514/Disney-Princess-Merida-makeover-A-7-year-old-s-verdict-on-the-Brave-heroine

It's from the Christian Science Monitor, so I'm not really sure if the article is objective, but you can look at the pics.

I can see how they want a more cartoony Merida - if they want to put her on the same poster with the other Disney Princesses, her style of animation is totally different and would look weird. But they could do that without sexing her up. I suppose they wanted to make her dress stand out more - they have the other Disney princesses in very fancy dresses - for example, Cinderella and Belle wear their ball gowns, not the clothes they wore for 90% of their movies.
