Just like with killing a person, there's degrees to the act. There's "rude" and there's "appropriate because they guy is an azzhole and endangering the well-being of a life form that is totally dependant upon his care".

I think she should have been promoted (or at least given a raise).

Woman says she was fired from Wal-Mart for saving dog from hot car

Carla Cheney was heading to work at Wal-Mart on a hot day in Kemptville, Ontario, when she noticed a man leaving his pup in his truck. At first he left the windows down, Cheney says, but the dog jumped out twice and followed him; he took the dog back, rolled the windows up to leave an opening of about an inch, and went shopping. Cheney called the police after waiting about 10 minutes. The dog owner reportedly confronted her and said it was "none of [her] business." Later that day, she says she was fired for "being rude to a customer." "Now I'm worried that other associates won't say anything and they'll be afraid that they'll lose their job if they do say something," says Cheney. [Source]

I wonder if the woman was already clocked in when he confronted her.  If she was wearing her Wal-Mart uniform and on the clock then got into a argument with a customer, Wal-Mart may  be justified for terminating her.
