That's a very nice reading!
And I agree with it mostly. I don't think that all human kind is like that, there are people that still have very full lives.
I think this person is way waaaay waaaaaaay romanticizing the past. More people than ever in human history can read, have access to medical care, food, clean water. A greater portion of the population than ever lives in peace and democracy.
He complains about 'days of ... overweight bodies' then advises to disregard nonessential numbers like weight. Can't have it both ways.
I also disagree with #2. True friends help each other through the tough times; they don't cut off contact because they don't meet some cheerfulness quota.
The whole rant reminds me of the 'kids these days are terrible' thing that periodically shows up, the punch line being that it was written by Socrates. The specifics vary, but I bet there's similar writings from many past eras, also.
For all the bad in the world, one doesn't have to look very far to see good things all around, good being done by heroes and 'regular folks' every day, as a normal part of life.
