How do you make a piece of clothing softer?

So you now know that I received the dress for LO for my sister's wedding. However I think the fabric it's itchy and I don't want LO to suffer with an itchy dress, besides if I want her to wear it for most of the day it needs to be softer.

Does any of you know of a way to make the fabric softer, without ruining the dress?

If it's not a washable dress, I don't know if there's anything you can do, except maybe consult a dry cleaner.

Possibly put the dress in a pillow case to protect it, then throw it in the drier with a drier sheet?

ETA: What works for me is to wearing something under the itchy garment. Maybe an undershirt and some leggings?

Oh well, thaks, I don't really want to take it to a dry cleaner. I don't trust them at all :(
