LOL I am hiring another assistant for my office and some applicants are just almost like "People of Walmart's Cousins" and others are good, just taking the time to weed through.

We are making a decision this afternoon, one more interview to go...whew!

After the interviews are done, I am sure you plan to come back with more details than that. That was more of a tease take two.

You have to at least tell us a story about the worst applicant. You owe us that much!

seriously!  it's like she doesn't even know us, and our need to feed on the drama of others....

though it's probably not necessary to provide a transcript of the interview.  several bullet points (or 10) with responses should suffice.  wink

LOL she comes in looking like a pale washed out version of Elvira with horrible bad teeth and breath (normally I never judge appearance) but she just was so so "Special" all the way around

offers a limp damp (ick) little hand thing (can't call shake, just a little flop)

every single thing we asked her we were cut off with "OH I KNOW that , I did it at "X" company....I am sure I have several ways to do to BETTER (used this exact word) when I work here

you could tell by her expressions she was not really *hearing* what we were saying, just enough to wait IMPATIENTLY for us to stop or to cut us off and tell us what she could do ummm you know BETTER

Told us in GREAT detail about why she moved to our town with her 16yoa daughter...her Ex was a cheating lying BAS~TARD and all details on why (no need to share but you get the idea) noconfuse

she let her DD choose the house they live in and now she is finding it to be too $$ and she is so upside down that she HAS to have a job that pays AT least X. which IS MORE than I MAKE at the Business Office Mananger! AND it was not "neogotiable" she HAD to have AT least that amount!!!!????!!!!

We hire through a temp agency and then if they work out buy their contract and they become our companies full time employees. SHE did not like that, she thought she could just get hired right OUT as she thought it was BEST. ummm no, we will not risk our excellent relationship with them by breaking our contract.  She kept stressing she KNEW how to do it and how she would be BEST for us.  Not with confidence (which is good) but LIKE bossy!

She just did not seem to read our body language at all.....at all~

and she wondered why she was not getting any of the SEVERAL jobs she had previously interviewed for??  confuseconfuse  I could have told her, but suspect she would not have listened~  biggrin

All in all I knew right at the hand shake she might be a fit for knowledge of duties (found out NOPE) but also the person for us has to fit in personality wise as we are not a huge office here. anyway.....she WAS not offered the position....

and the better fit who was great was LOL

is that enough, maybe I should have hired her, just think of the stories...but NOPE I would most likely not have internet access in prison as I know I would have snapped and did her IN LOL

since a temp agency sent her, do you give feedback on the candidates? because this would make one heck of a fun feedback session....

Wow, in this day and age, that kind of behavior during an interview is inexcusable.  There is so much advice out there for free on the internet on how to conduct properly conduct yourself.  I'm not saying you'll nail every interview or get a job offer, but at the very least, you could leave an impression with the interviewer that would have them saying, "Well, he/she isn't right for this position, but he/she gave a great interview and I'd like to keep him/her in mind for a future position."

EXACTLY we did have other very good candidates and selected the best for our position and yes, when I called agency I did tell them about the interviews we had conducted, and this was a new applicant for them and they suspected how she was, but thought she might have been just having an off day and was not ummm as agressive with them. They apologized. and this normally never happens with the people they send so it is not a big deal just an EYE opener LOL

She is no longer with their agency, and they did offer her some tips and web links to go to for ideas for positive interview techiques. but she brushed them off and declared she WAS MUCH TOO TALENTED FOR OUR POSITION ANYWAY LOL

Oh wooooow!!!

That woman was just something else! Thank you for sharing Riding!

I'll share an interview story with you guys, I had an interview with the person that'll be my boss and her boss, she went to the same college as I did and we "knew" each other. We had a nice interview, but when her boss started asking questions it got kinda weird, he asked about my accomplishments in other companies and I mentioned a couple of things that I was proud of and somethings that I was recognized for.
Well this guy didn't like my confidence and asked me how was I feeling on the humility department, I was surprised by his question but I managed to answer that I thought I was a humble person and that I only mentioned some of my achievements and that I could mention some others but those were not relevant to the position.

I knew right then that I wouldn't get the job, but I'm not sorry about what I answered, he asked my about accomplishments and he didn't like that I actually had some.

i'm only willing to give her a very, VERY small pass on this one part:

that she HAS to have a job that pays AT least X. which IS MORE than I MAKE at the Business Office Mananger! AND it was not "neogotiable" she HAD to have AT least that amount!!!!????!!!!

and that's only because, many moons ago when i was temping, i gave the agency a minimum salary that i would work for. i was told that i would not be sent out to jobs for less than that amount ($10 per hour). the first interview they sent me on, the salary was $7.50 per hour, which i did not learn until i had sat through a one-hour interview. now i certainly didn't act the way candidate did, just apologized to the interviewer for wasting their time. but i also had a good idea of the average starting salary for clerical positions in the area.

if the applicant had told them her base salary requirement, and they sent her anyway, that's on them (and ONLY that part). if your job met her base salary requirement and she then flipped her little bitch switch with the bigger requirement, that's on her.

she KNEW our starting wage, but was SURE once we met her we would appreciate her awesomeness and see she NEEDED more (thus her detailed lengthy reasons and personal life issues) so we would understand the NEED.

also we filled the position yesterday at 2:00 and the agency notified all candidates of our decision by 2:30 (actually spoke with them, no voice mails etc) I just confirmed this a few minutes ago. BUT one of my bosses just received a long long email from her stating again WHY she would be the better choice and stressing how SHE could make our company BETTER....ummmmm and she would AWAIT our decision when we had time to rethink it!

I notified contact at agency who was horrified and they were immediately contacting her.

We are not responding to any emails....wow we dodged some CRAZYYYYYYYYY there LOL

Suomi, for shame! Do you really want to put Riding in the slammer?

(or do you just want another assignment for the SSOILDMAW?)

But don't you know that we peeps would have helped Riding hide the body?  Very hard to prove foul play w/o a body!  Besides, with this loonie, I'm sure there'd be a long list of suspects, starting with her daughter and her ex.evileye

you didn't just dodge a bullet...you dodged a whole damn firing squad with that one.....
yeah, i hope she doesn't hold her breath while she's awaiting your decision.  she probably doesn't look good in blue.  biggrin

Sounds like a plan, Riding.

I love how she was convinced you'd change the starting salary because she NEEDS more. A 'what's your starting salary? Is that negotiable based on my experience?' conversation is reasonable, and no hard feelings if the interviewee says "I can't work for that amount, thank you for the interview". A company doesn't give two hoots what a potential employee needs. Hell, in most cases they don't care what their current employees NEED - if you go in asking for a raise because you need it you're going to get laughed out of the office. Go in with a case of what you've done to earn it, you might have a chance.

I predict a long term of unemployment for this one.

All of this is very true. I've been in both positions (the person deciding what someone gets paid, and the person asking for a salary or salary increase)... and "is the salary negotiable?" always gets a better response than "I need $X (way above reasonable starting salary)".

I also agree with how to ask for a raise. Don't just say "I need $X more" and expect it to happen, prove why you DESERVE some more (and then you can usually negotiate a reasonable increase).

mostly, don't go into a job interview, when you don't have the damn job yet, and demand a higher salary than what is offered, because you NNEEEEDDDD it! yeah, that kind of behavior will get you hired real quick....not!

LOL... nope... becoming a Moderator means you HAVE to. Being a "regular, run of the mill, standard, peep" means you CAN.

ETA: besides... I don't have anything to do with the hiring here... so I couldn't even if I wanted to.cry
