I am super paranoid about ghosts and zombies but that being said I have lived near cemeteries almost everywhere I have lived. My old childhood neighborhood backed up to a huge cemetery. Some of the houses actually if you walked from their backyard into the cemetery. We would go through walks at dusk through the cemetary just my Dad and I. One time some older girls found a dead man lying in the cemetery. I think he was murdered and dumped there.
Then our second house was nowhere near one. Our Third home was not right next to one but about 5 minute drive from a huge one.
Then my mom's house where I lived for awhile that she lives at now, has one of those tiny old timey family cemeteries at the end of her driveway. They still bury people in it occasionally. Some of the tombstones are falling down they are so old and even have some of those really old above ground tombs. It was a little creepy pulling into that driveway out in the country in the dark with the cemetary right there.
The one big downside to my mother's little tiny cemetery next to her driveway is on the blue moon when they have a funeral there, people always park in her driveway road blocking it. Then you feel rude asking them to move in the middle of a funeral but you gotta get home because you have groceries thawing or you gotta get out because you got to get to school on time or whatever. Occasionally they park in the road when just visiting graves too. There is plenty of space to park along the main road so there is no reason they have to park in the private road but people just don't think.
Actually, I live across the street from one. I live across the street from a beautiful landmark church that was founded in 1732 and there is an old cemetary on the property. I pass it all the time while I'm walking Koira. (I'm very careful not to let her wee wee or poop there, out of respect to the occupants.)

She needs "private road - no parking" signs.

They do have a gate they keep locked off and on but it is further down from the cemetery. Since there is only like one funeral there every two years it is not a huge deal, but the rare times it happens it gets awkward. I felt like **** one day because I pulled in and there was a car blocking the road. I was not sure if it was someone at the cemetery or in the field or what. We get hunters that park on that road too and all kinds of random people. So I honked and then this woman come out of the cemetery and I realize she was probably there to mourn and I felt awful. She should not have blocked the road, but still made me feel bad.
You know speaking of graveyards....they are like good places for illegal activity. I already talked about how when I was a kid the graveyard that backed up to our neighborhood the girls found a dead body out there one time. He was dumped out there by somebody. I think because they are quiet and secluded usually people use them for naughty things.
Even the little one by my mom's house has had trouble. She saw some truck parked in there and the people were either necking or doing drugs because it was middle of the night and they were pulled up in the trees as far as they could go. Then a couple years later there was a lot of activity in the trees behind the cemetery and turns out there was some kind of meth selling or using going on. She had to call the law and they caught them. So being next to a graveyard does not guarantee things will be all on the quiet up and up boring side. Far from it. haha
I love old cemeteries. The one by your house is awesome.
I just remembered I never did find out what the symbol on some of the tombstones mean. I will try to remember to ask our trustees before the next time I see you!

I could. But, I have my husband home at night. It might creep me out if I lived alone. I love cemeteries by day, the idea that a life is remembered when it's gone. But I am fascinated by history in general. And the future, too. Just the idea that our time here is fleeting, and one day people will wonder how people in the 21st century could believe X.
We lived next to a cemetery a few years ago. It had some really old stones, some that were so old and weathered you could barely read the dates. Then over by the tree, there was a tiny stone that just said "Kitty" on it. That was so curious.
