I live in CT and we experience the four seasons. I never guess right as to when it's ok to change my wardrobe from fall/winter to spring/summer. I was going to do it last weekend, but then I woke up to a two-inch coating of ice on my car last week and it got colder, so I put it off. Now, it appears it will be in the 60s most of this week. I think I'm safe in storing away the really heavy wool winter things and maybe bringing out the heavy cotton things. I hope.
At this rate, I won't be bringing out the linen, light cotton stuff until the 4th of July.
Do any of you have a set date when you switch around closets?
I live in Alabama. We definitely experience 4 seasons, but we don't have 4 wardrobes. I have 2 heavy coats, but I don't actually own a heavy wool sweater. That's not a required wardrobe item here. Generally, people here don't have summer pants and winter pants. If you are going to be doing an outside activity, you wear layers. But we don't need to layer up for our daily commute. For me, I wear the same pants year round. In the summer I wear sandals, and in the winter I wear socks. Heck, sometimes in the winter I wear sandals! My winter tops are long-sleeved and my summer tops are short sleeved.
At the beginning of February, we had a gorgeous weekend with weather in 60s. So I wore a short-sleeved dress.
So it's not a matter of changing a whole closet. It's just the matter of a box or two. Since spring has definitely sprung, this weekend I'm going to pack away my heavier sweaters, and get my coat dry cleaned and hung up.
When it's too cold to swim is when I pack away my summer things and pull out winter/fall things.
Right around now is when I change it out. But I do leave a few items behind for those just in case moments that Mother Nature decides to go off her meds.
I start packing away my cuddle duds and heavier sweaters as they are washed toward the end of february. then start wearong springy looking sweaters. yesterday it was above 80, but we.could get lows into the 40's again.
I'm about the same as you, suomi, but I'm a terrible procrastinator, so it will probably be early May before I get my act together and do the switcharoo...
I actually changed ours today. I only do the kids closets. My closet is pretty huge and I just keep all my clothes in there. DH uses another closet for his clothes all year round. The kids closets and chest of drawers are changed seasonally twice a year and then the stuff is put in tubs down in the basement.
I usually bring it up in the tubs and we use it out of the tub for awhile till we are SURE it is cold or hot for good, then I change them and put the tubs back downstairs.
I pared down my closet enough that I don't have to do a switch, but I used to switch when I was wearing short sleeves or long sleeves (depending on the appropriate season) more often than not. That changes by the year!
I never really put my summer stuff away, because there are so many random hot days, even in winter. Plus, I can wear my tank tops under cardigans.
I'm in the process of weeding out my heavier sweaters and winter-y tops and turtlenecks. As things get washed, they're getting pulled from rotation. One winter coat and the hat and gloves will stay around for awhile - it was in the 30s during the baseball game last night.
I have one closet and all of my clothes stay there all year round. I have furs that for the first time I will put them in "storage" but I have never done that before
Everything is in my closet, I just rotate it during the spring and then again in the fall.
That's the time I get rid of stuff I haven't worn the previous season. I hate a cluttered closet and mine is not very nice right now. I like organization and for it to be colour-coded. I might do it during the long weekend in May.
