DAMASCUS TOWNSHIP — State police charged a 10-year-old boy with criminal homicide on Monday.
Troopers told Newswatch 16 the child’s mother is the one who told police about what her son had done. When authorities interviewed him, the boy described how it happened on Saturday.
Police said Tristen Kurilla, 10, of Damascus Township was visiting his grandfather on Saturday at his home on Skylake Road in Tyler Hill.
Investigators said Kurilla went into the room of Helen Novak, 90, and after some kind of dispute, Kurilla punched Novak multiple times in the throat.
The boy’s grandfather was a caretaker for Novak, according to police.
According to an affidavit, Kurilla told police Novak yelled at him and he got mad, put a cane around her throat, and punched her numerous times.
An autopsy was performed on Novak on Monday, and her death was ruled a homicide.
The Wayne County District Attorney’s office said Kurilla will be charged as an adult.
Kurilla is currently locked up the Wayne County Correctional Facility. No bail has been set.

I agree with Littleone. There is something wrong with that child.
There's also something wrong with charging/prosecuting a TEN YEAR OLD as an Adult. I'm sorry the 90 year old lady is dead. It's a tragedy. But there's no way that a TEN year old made the adult choice to commit murder. I'm not saying he didn't intend to kill... he may well have... I'm just saying he didn't think it through the way an adult could have.

In PA, minors are not allowed to be charged with homicide, so all homicides are automatically charged as adults. If convicted, he'll go to a juvenile detention center, not a state penitentiary.

Red a very interesting case about a girl in England who murdered 2 other children. After serving a sentence, she was released, and eventually was given a new identity. You know, so people couldn't be mean to her just cuz she murdered a few other kids when she was young.
