Ok so this just came to my mind and I thought you guys could have some answers.

Is there any correlation about cup size of a woman's breast to the amount of milk she'll be able to produce? That's keeping aside any issues that might prevent the woman from produce milk.

And while we are at this, how milk does a woman produce when breastfeeding?

No. I had little ones but plenty of milk. My sister had huge ones and had all kinds of problems with her milk production. You produce as much as the baby needs (it regulates itself depending on the demand) although it takes a little while for your mammary glands to figure out how much that is. As the baby gets bigger and nurses more your glands will produce more. You'll learn all about this as soon as the baby misses a feeding for some reason as they will feel ful and very uncomfortable.

So there goes my thinking of having enough for Chickpea and to donate LOL

Although I don't know if there's someplace I can donate breast milk here in Mexico.

If you feed the baby, then pump, you can trick them (your glands) into making more. You would have to do it everytime though so they would be used to producing that much. Breast milk freezes well so if they take donations it could be done. Bravo to you for even thinking of donating!!!!

Sorry but my having the lack of desire to have children, just the idea of breast freeding makes my nipples hurt and feel violated. Yes, I know I am wrong, but still. My boobs are toys and for decoration only.

From my experience it does not.

When I had my daughter, I was a DD cup. And I could not nurse. I had lots of milk but there was no substance to it. No matter what I did.

After a month of pretty much starving my daughter, my doctor asked me to quit nursing.

My sister, on the other hand, who is like a B cup produced lots of milk of very good quality and had no trouble nursing at all.

What do you mean your milk didn't had substance to it?
Was it like water?

No idea.

But I like threads that put breasts at the front of my thinking...

I really did not realize that there could be different qualities of breast milk. I thought it was always an issue of quantity produced.

Besides the demand pushing the quantity, the "formulation" of breast milk changes some over the age of the child. The milk supply for a 6 week old infant is different than what is available for a 5 month old baby or even a toddler. It's been about 25 years since I was a member of La Leche League so I don't recall all of the science, but that I do remember!

I never BF Peanut... not that I couldn't I chose not to because I was having to take care of my mom (Who has dementia) and PEanut at the same time was going to stress me out. Lets just say I had A LOT milk but it took 2 weeks for it to dry up since I didn't pump it or anything. Your cup size doesn't matter.. its really up to your diet, and how frequently you pump and such. Also you can take some herbs.. I don't remember what they are called.. but apparently it was gross. I think you drink it like a tea.

Now for the donating.. What about your local hospital?

I BF both my children for a few weeks but that was it. It was too exhausting for me, and left me dehydrated.

I'm a triple D and I about drowned my kids. There was so much it was litterally flowing even when I wasn't nursing.

I guess I just thought it was because I had huge breasts (yuk! I hate my big boobs!!)

My friends with smaller breasts (aka everyone I know) were able to supply breast milk just fine.

Quite a few of them can be uninteresting... (like any threads on shoes or purses)... but sometimes... occasionally... a thread makes a turn that one wouldn't have expected... and then BAM! it gets interesting.

And as far as "nipple gyser" being enjoyable... It was just an odd/funny mental picture more than it was enjoyable.

Imagine a naked female breast... now combine that with the eruption of "Old Faithful" in Yellowstone... that's the mental image I got.

I don't get all giddy over boobs like most straight men (yes I do like them, but just not in the "I saw her boobies... tee hee, tee hee" way).

I have barely A cups and I had no trouble with milk production.

As others have mentioned, milk production is based on demand - the more your baby eats, the more your body will produce to keep up with the demand.

An interesting tidbit - your milk will transfer some of the flavor of the food you eat. So, when you get to the point where your child is ready for solids, you don't necessarily need to go with super bland foods for fear the baby might not like something. Generally speaking, your kid will already be familiar with some flavors simply because they will pass into your breastmilk. As long as it was age appropriate, I just mashed up whatever meal my husband and I were eating and fed that rather than buy a lot of pre-packaged baby food. Sometimes I reduced the amounts of spices I used, but I never eliminated them completely/

Yeah, I was, too, until I found out I needed to either feed or pump eveyr 3 hours, around the clock.  Not good for my beauty rest.

PCL, I had no idea the flavor was passed along. Of course that makes sense but I just never considered it.

Family Gal, I hope that I can pump for night feedings! Also I want DH to be able to feed the baby from time to time so he can bond with Chickpea as well.

EmmDee that's right about the flavor transfer, one of my CWs had a baby about 18 months ago and she avoided hot stuff because her baby will get an upset tummy in the next feeding after she had some sauce or something. Sometimes she would go ahead and had some and then she pumped a couple of times and discarded that milk.

I understand it's a good way to get your children used to flavors of foods you want them to develop a taste for when they are older and eating solids. Like vegetables. Just be wary of broccoli.

Why should I be wary of broccoli? I'm really curios!

Neither of my children had colic, but I did switch to the Dr. Brown bottles which seemed to help them with indigestion as they did have reflux. They were also easier to hold under my chin if I needed to grab a cloth while feeding them. (I had started out with the avent but didn't really like them).

I was thinking about getting Avent, I'm not sure if we get Dr. Brown around here... I'll have to check.

I love being able to enjoy having a baby without the actual morning sickness and other worries. It will be even more fun when the baby is actually born and I can enjoy it without the sleepless nights and other worries (didn't want to be too negative about the joys of motherhood). It is fun to hear how much you are enjoying it so thanks for sharing.

I have small breasts but I was a milk hose when it came to production. I can remember my milk coming in so fast that it would surge down my daughter's throat and come out of her nose! I had to be careful not to drown her if she was swallowing too slowly. And heaven forbid if she started to fall asleep at the breast. The milk would still be poring down her throat in her sleep.

My production was insane. Any time I got near her my milk would let down. Even if I wasn't near her, if I heard her cry -nipple gyser! Not being near her wasn't an option either because every few hours I'd be in intense pain.

Luckily for me all my subsequent babies were piglets that could keep up with me.

You know how babies usually lose weight after they're born? My fourth baby gained a pound in 4 days. That's very unusual.

Bwahaha! Yeah my milk makers were a constant source of amusement for about 10 years.

I'd be nursing the baby on one side and the other fountain would be turned all the way on. Dude, I didn't even need a pump. I could fill a three ounce bottle with overflow. If I wasn't prepared with a second bottle I'd need to sit there for 10 or 15 minutes pinching my other nipple or both the baby and myself would end up drenched.

I have no idea what determines milk production (trust me it's not boob size) but whatever it was I had more than my fair share.

If you have small one's they do get bigger. But then they deflate again. I know they'll never be perky again but I'm very proud of my lil boobs. They're champs.

I was a geyser too, that's how I was able to go back to work because I could fill a bottle from the other side while nursing. It was handy and oh-so-cheap, so I was happy I could do it. I will admit the first 3-4 days of nursing were hard, but after that easy-peasy.

A little funny: A couple of months after DS were born DH and I were having sex with me on top. After a while DH said, "What the hell? I'm getting all wet!" Yep, both sides were running like a faucet, and I had been too busy to notice! ;)
