I keep one of my horses at a local boarding facility.
It is self care, which means you do all the work for your horse, cleaning his stall, turning him out bringing him in, etc.
We have two barns, a big barn that has 12 stalls and the covered arena and then across the parking lot is a small 3 stall barn.
I share the 3 stall barn with a married couple who each have a horse and they are both retired. I have one horse and an not retired.
During the week, when I am at work, they go up in the morning, clean their stalls and turn out all 3 horses. I hire someone during the week to do my cleaning so if not for having to bring in my horse, I would not have to go up there everyday.
But right now I am going up every night during the week and bringing in all 3 horses. I am thinking this is a little unbalanced. While there are 2 of them to turn out 3 horses, there is only one of me to bring in all 3 horses.
Am I wrong in thinking it would be more "fair" if they brought in the horses at least one night a week, even though they turn out every morning?
It does seem like you are doing more work. I imagine bring in the horses is more difficult than letting them out. Unfortunately, couples usually make out better than a single in this type of situation because they are sharing the responsibility. You can ask if they would be willing to bring the horses in one night a week but I wouldn't be surprised if they think that the division is fair and don't want to change it. Good luck!
I agree it couldn't hurt to ask. They are just bringing in one extra horse and you are bringing in two extra horses every time. Maybe they just didn't think about it that way. Since they are retired they probably have more time available for it anyway.
The problem seems to have worked itself out. They are now offering to bring in on Tuesday nights, so I can have a night off and that is pretty much all I was looking for.
