I thought my original plans were not going to happen -- some friends were planning a cookout and fireworks, then they lost power in the storm last week.  No lights, well pump was out so no running water, no AC, no refrigeration.  No party.  cry

So, I was having a bit of a pity-party about not knowing what to do and also being down remembering that last year I'd had dinner with Dad (he'd asked if I was going to come over and I'd told him I was going to these same friends' house for fireworks but would come by for awhile.  When I got to the house, he told me he had steaks, corn, potato salad and pie -- guess I'm staying for dinner!)  He declined to come too -- he was going to stay home where it was cool and watch John Wayne movies.

He died two weeks later.

So....  Checked e-mail yesterday and Yay Yippee!!  Friends have power again, party is back on, come on over!  Lots of people, lots of food, fantastic fireworks.  Professional quality stuff and the guys shooting them off both do demolition work, so they know how to handle explosives.  One minor (since no one was hurt!) problem when one exploded on the ground and set off a couple more.  Exciting, but no injuries.

Very glad I did that, instead of staying home and watching A Capitol 4th on PBS!

That sounds like fun!

We did not do much. I was planning on making picnic food for DH and myself, but then invited some friends of ours over. Only one was able to make it, but hey, now I've got leftovers for dinner tonight!

Sounds nice.

We walked down and watched the city fireworks from the bridge. It was not very crowded, the view was great and the moonrise was amazing! The moon was nearly full and blood red.

Glad you had a good time. Were the Kitty Girls upset from the fireworks when you got home?
Tallulah was ok until the end where we could hear all sorts of loud booms from outside and she started making indignant Mreeeeowwwwww noises from under the bed, lol.

We do exactly the same thing every year. It sounds boring but it's surprsingly stress free. I had an awesome holiday.

Our Fourth was wonderful.
DH, DS & I watched movies.
DH cooked some burgers on the grill, while I made a quick pasta salad & corn on the cob.
And we had lemon-blueberry-pretzel-cheesecake squares for dessert.
Peaceful day in the TV room with the AC cranked.
Two of my three girls had themselves curled up somewhere in the room with the AC, my third girl prefers the warm hallway, so we only saw her when we were eating. hungry.gif

No, The Girls were fine when I got home -- they don't seem to be too bothered by loud noises. Though when the storm hit last week, they attached themselves to my legs!  They were quite insistent on FOOD NOW!!  Even though I'd fed them before I left....

Yeah, it's been rough year for anniversaries.  If it's not stinking hot, I'll probably go out to the cemetery that day.
