I drive a convertable, but don't put the top down very often. It is pretty noisy inside even with the windows rolled up. Tonight just after I crossed the bridge it sounded particularly loud. I tried rolling up the windows a little more and still heard a noisy wind. I glanced up and my passenger side latch had come open and my roof had about a four inch gap above the windshield.
I just about had a heart attack - It was five o'clock traffic and I was going 70 mph and in the left lane with the right lane full of cars who take the first four exits. I just knew my roof was going to fly off and cause a huge accident. Luckaly there was a break in traffic between the first exit and the second and I was able to get over and get off the highway to fix it.
I just realized that when DSS & I went to the store last Wednesday, he wanted the top down. When we got home he latched the passenger side lock. Next time I'll check to make sure it's locked!
I hate anything unexpected that makes me take my hands off the wheel. At one point I reached over and tried to tug on the middle, but that was no help at all. It was a weird experience for sure.
