Is This a Nail Salon or a Day Care?

Usually getting my nails done is a relaxing thing.  Today, I couldn't wait to get out of there!!

A few minutes after I got there, a woman came in carrying a baby.  She said she was looking for someone, went back to pedicure area and left a few minutes later, sans baby.  A couple minutes later, the baby started wailing at the top of his lungs.  This went on for about 45 minutes, until the first woman came back.  Apparently, she'd dropped off her kid for a friend to hold while she went and did something else.  I can't imagine this was a terribly enjoyable pedicure for the woman stuck with the screeching infant.  Or any of the rest of us, listening the screeching.  hmm  I can't imagine why she didn't call the mom and tell her 'come back here and get your kid!'

Shortly after they left, four women came in together for pedicures.  With four small children.  Toddler to maybe 4-5.  They all plopped down in their chairs, stuck their feet in the tubs, then started yelling at the kids to quit running around, be quiet, get out here where I can see you, Be Quiet, quit running, BE QUIET!!!

Thank goodness, the pedicure area is separate from the rest of the salon, but the noise carried through the place.  As soon as my polish was dry, I ran out of there.

What the hoolies were they thinking?

What? Um why bring your child to somewhere that stinks of nail chemicals in the first place , never mind that they are being brats. Either get an alternative babysitter or do not go.

It definitely did not sound like you had a good time.

That's a lot of non-paying customers running around causing a ruckus. Too bad that you were there at the same time.

I agree with TS! Getting a pedicure or manicure should be somewhat relaxing. Listening to other people's children is not relaxing.

I must have something wrong with me, because when AB starts to cry, my instinct is to remove him from the vicinity of other people. Apparently, I am supposed to rile others up.

No, you're not only supposed to keep him there, you should pinch him to make him scream louder, then yell at him to BE QUIET!!!!

Because everyone enjoys listening to a screaming baby and mother so much......

As I get older I realize that I'm way more into "my" time and "my" money than I used to be - so if this were something I had to suffer through - I'd be calling the manager/owner and telling him/her that I will not be returning because I like to relax when I'm paying good money on my time and I'd tell them exactly why. Then I'd start making calls to find a place that doesn't tolerate screamiing children and yelling parents.

I NEVER let my kids get away with that. They were given strict instructions before we would walk into a place and if they didn't follow the rules, they'd be punished. Didn't take them long to realize mommy meant it when she said "behave". But then again, I would never take my kids with me when I was getting a manicure or my hair done, or even to a doctor/dentist appointment.

You must have been there a long time, Lady Marsali, for all that to have occured.

Maybe an hour and half. It usually takes just over an hour for gel fills, but with the guy jumping up every few minutes to retrieve things for the baby, washing them off, taking them back to woman -- for the kid to throw it all on the floor again.... -- it took longer.

Oh my.  The person who was doing your nails was picking up the baby toys and washing them off while you sat and waited?  The second time it happened I would have said something.    And like Fraed would have called the manager to complain.

I don't get professional manicures often, so it's a expensive treat.  I would not have been a happy customer at all.

I also value my time and $$. I'm not just paying for a service, I'm also paying for the relaxation that's supposed to come with it. Screaming kids and parents, are not part of that package. To me it's no different than going in for a massage and having that proceedure and soft music interrupted by screaming. Nope. It would only happen once.

I'd definitely be making a remark to my technician and also the manager/owner.
