Experienced narrators, how many roles would you say it takes to make a good game? I'm prepping.---------- Also, do you think it's important for the players to be familiar with the theme or do you think a good narrator can pull it off?

 Some narrators like to have a role for every character, some keep it simple and only have townies and Mafia.  I don't think it's important for the players to be familiar with theme at all, although it helps if at least one Mafia is, as they do the nightly kill write-up.  (Although, when I hosted, I did all the write-ups because I had ideas to keep it all together).

Welcome to mafia. Before you know it you will be come an addict with a spreadsheet. Or maybe two spreadsheets linked by macros, with a master spreadsheet controlling them all. is game will have some changes from normal mafia. So you might have an advantage as you have no preconceptions.

 Why no, no it's not. :)  I've done spreadsheets for almost all the games I've played.  

ETA: And once I even wrote a small program to calculate the probabilities that people were mafia given certain conditions (like player1 and player2 were probably not on the same team, etc.).  It worked pretty well for that game, but I soon learned it only works if the circumstances are just right.

Family Gal, most of us had no idea what we were doing when we first started. I have found that the players usually give you a break at first and will answer any questions you may have. Or the narrators can help. As the rules can vary from game to game, I always suggest reading what twists that games has.
