This morning around 5:30 I woke up and went to get me a glass of water. Tabbi was laying in a spot close to my door that is 3/4 closed. That is strange, she never lays there. I go to open the door and on the other side of the 3/4 closed door lies Lucy waiting for Tabbi to come out to play. Tabbi waits for me to return to bed, jumps up and looks at me. I told her, go play with Lucy, you know you want to. She runs out the door and she and Lucy start racing around getting some early morning exercise.
Their love for each other is just so complex and entertaining at times. Please share any pet stories you may have.
I think they like to pretend that we don't see their love for each other so I think it is more of a sibling love. Big sis sometimes snaps at lil brother if he doesn't stop when she tells him to.
I have two male cats who pretend they don't like each other. Sometimes I catch them licking each other but as soon as they notice, they jump apart, like they got caught doing something wrong...it makes me laugh.

Lucy kept dropping toys on my face last night. All night. PLAY PLAY PLAY is his mantra. Mine is SLEEP SLEEP SHUT UP SLEEP.

It makes me laugh when I let Tabby out in the morning, they run to each other then halt about 3 feet away and just stare into each others eyes. Lucy is in lurve.
[click here to start writing your quick reply] My mother’s cat had a litter of 4 kittens. I wanted 2 of them, so Mom suggested I take the two in the middle, as they always played together as a group. They were both girls and so alike that you needed bright light to tell them apart. They were mackerel-striped tabbies, but Lucy was brown whereas Rikki was grey. I brought them home when they were 11 weeks old.
Since they were totally indoor cats I didn’t get them fixed right away. I was waiting for the vet van that comes around, as I’d had other cats fixed through them and they always did excellent work. I’ve taken strays off the alley, got them fixed and found them homes plus I’d occasionally “gift” a family member by paying for their pet cat to be fixed. I am very big on the concept of no accidental kittens, and try to spread that around as much as I’m able to afford.
The vet van was also reasonable, as back then, you could get a female cat spayed and get their rabies shot for just $30-35. Of course the kittens had been to the vet as soon as I brought them home, and gotten their vaccinations then, but since they were now 1yo I figured I might as well get that rabies taken care of too.
At about 1 year old one of the kitties went into heat, with her sister following not even one week later. I’d never been through a female cat’s heat before, as all my previous kitties were male, and they all got fixed before they could learn to spray. So after just a few days of me pointing the remote at the TV, and one or the other of them crouching down singing, “my prince has come!” I called and got the first appointments available at the vet van.
So we got Lucy and Rikki fixed, and brought them home the same day. Since they were dopey still and needed to be kept quiet for a few days, I used our dog’s wire crate to keep them in for the rest of that day and overnight. It’s a humongous crate, even too big for Columbo, a lab/beagle mix, so was certainly big enough for a small temporary litterbox and food/water, at opposite ends, plus room for them to sleep in a box. The next two days I just put them in at bedtime since we wouldn’t be around to keep them from climbing curtains or whatever else they might have got up to.
While they were still healing I put a small human heating pad under a blanket in a box in the living room, and the two of them used it off and on for another week or two.
One day I was sitting here at the computer and one of them – don’t know which, as I mentioned they looked alike - sat in the box on the heating pad and gave herself a bath. The whole time while bathing she was making this trilling sound, it was very pretty. Since she had her back to me, all I could think was she was talking to herself!
And another time that week, I was sitting here again (I do sit here a lot, it’s also where I read as I have a comfortable chair and good light) I saw one of the cats run upstairs to where her sister was laying in the hallway, right at the top of the stairs. It was a favorite place for both of them, as they got pets whether someone was going UP the stairs or DOWN.
The two cats had a really long discussion, then both of them came downstairs, the one that went upstairs originally winding around the other one. It almost seemed like she was herding her sister. The first cat stepped into the box with the heating pad, still talking. Her sister gets in, then jumps right back out and went into the kitchen; I could hear her eat kibble from here. The original cat followed, STILL talking! Then they both come back and get in the heated box for a nap.
So… The way I understood it. Original cat wanted to take a nice snuggly warm nap in the box with the heating pad. She thought her sister should take a nap too, as both of them went through the surgery, and were in recovery. She then went up the stairs to convince her sister to get up from her warmed up spot at the top of the steps and come down. That kitty decided to tease the first one, but finally agreed.
When our two girls were young, the older (by a month) cat used to collect the other cat from my room for bedtime. She would meow at the other cat, other cat would get up and then they would both go to the end bedroom to sleep. They do not do that now and I miss it.
Katy & Bella both escort me to bed every night, snuggle up with me, purr loudly and knead on me. Then, after about 10 minutes, it is Time To Run. Up and down the hall. Thundering like a herd of buffalo. MMMMMMRRRRRRRRRRRING!!! The Ribbon Monster is frequently involved in the chasing up and down -- i can tell who has it by whose mmmmrrrrring is muffled.
Lately, whenever I sit down to read, they take turns getting into my lap and butting the book out of my hands. Apparently, holding the book with one hand and petting the kitty with the other is just not done! Both hands and the full attention of the human must be on the kitty!
I am currently sitting on the front third of my chair, because Hobo is taking up the back 2/3rds. Heaven forbid I want to actually get my entire rear end and thighs on MY chair.
