A fish out of water
Permalink

This morning one of the women from accounting was taking her granddaughter around and showing her off.    She was indeed cute as a button.  A few minutes later I hear another co-worker, say "Go show Evil. She likes fish."

In pops another co-worker with her five year old grandson and he is carrying a stringer of four actual bluegills.  When I bent over to admire them, they were breathing.  Poor fishies.

So they went fishing and are carrying around fish out of water, torturing them?

Yes, they were still alive. It was distressing to see them gasping for air.

Where did they go fishing and what were they keeping them in? They must have had them in a cooler or bucket full of water prior to bring them inside for them to still be alive. Fish usually die fairly quickly out of water.

 Very true.

And.... suffocating fish really shouldn't be at the workplace... unless you work at some kind of fish processing place.

My co-worker's husband had come by with the boy. There must have been some kind of water vessel in the car. I don't know why they felt compelled to bring the fish in. The little boy probably wanted to show his Grandmother the fish he caught and Grandpa didn't tell him "No we need to leave the fish in the car."

The fish were then filleted, fried and eaten for lunch.

As long as lunch was the expected result, I'm o.k. with them suffocating (it's what happens sooner or later to all fish that are bound for the table), I just think that was a bit weird for the workplace.
