After blowing through 13 or so books in the month of August, I took a reading break. I'm getting back into it, but the book I'm reading is kind of boring. It's The Red Queen by Phillippa Gregory and while I normally like her stuff, I'm just not into this one. It's the second in her Cousin's War trilogy (historically known as The War of the Roses), and is basically a retelling of the first, except from the POV of Margaret Beaufort, Henry VII's mother. It's not the very same story, of course, but I find the protagonist to be annoying as hell.
I'm also reading Women of the Bible, which is fairly self-explanatory. It's been in my TBR pile for a few months now, and when DH announced we were going to do famous Biblical women in Bible study, I decided to start it. I haven't gotten very far yet, but I think I'll like it.

After waiting years for this book to come out I'm currently reading A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin and I'm allowing anything and everthing to distract me from it.
I just started Steve Martini's The Rule of Nine. I'm normally not all that into this writer but my husband picked it up on remainders and I haven't been to a book store or library lately.
But I recently read Nevada Barr's Flashback and liked it better than some of her other books.
And I'm getting into Ian Rankin, who is very good though not quite a replacement for Reginald Hill, alas.
I've found that since I got my nook I actually read less. I'm wondering if it's because I'm busier or if it's because normally when I get a book in my hands I go hide from all distractions to read it but my nook IS a distraction. I play music from it, search the web, check my email play games, keep my calendar -- There are so many distractions that I can't seem to just READ anymore.
I hate to go back to paper books. I need to put more effort into it.
I put my nook in a leather book cover to make it feel more like a book but it still doesn't. It feels exactly like what it is. I haven't purchased a book since I got it for my birthday in March but the book I'm currently reading is a hardback from the library.
I don't want any more books. I think I'm over buying books. I love the idea of having all of my books in one electronic book but if I'm too distracted to read them there's no point.
I can't blame my nook though because as I said I'm currently reading a hardback and I can't force myself to concentrate on it.
I am reading Girls Like Us: Fighting for a World Where Girls are Not For Sale, by Rachel Lloyd. The author is the founder of a non profit in NYC, GEMS-Girls Educational & Mentoring Services, that seeks to help girls and women (age 12-24 according to their website) who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation or those who may be at risk. Though the subject matter is disturbing, the book is actually an easy, not altogether unpleasant read and I would recommend it.
I also just started reading the crime novel The Year of the Dog, by Henry Chang. I am not sure I like it. I already have reservations, and have just started it.
As far as e-readers, they don't really appeal to me either. I do buy too many books though. I have been thinking I should use the library more.
