Thanks Moon. It's not so bad when the power goes out. We're used to it. We don't even leave town until it's been past four days. That's about my limit. A day is just like camping only inside the house instead of a tent :)
I don't mind lack of power for a day or so either, as long as it's not too cold. Unfortunately for me, it always seems to be cold when the power goes out here.
It's easier on me when it's cold when the power goes out because I can dig a little ice cave and store my food in coolers. The power hardly ever goes out in the summer time and if it does it's minutes before it's restored rather than hours or days. Thankfully I have a wood stove so I can heat my house, cook basic meals and have hot water for washing.
We're old hands at this. I think the kids look foward to it :)
