I met DH when we both worked for the same company and we were working on an orphan drug project in Holland.  I did not like him very much at all, seven years later I married him.

I came across her by accident on AOL.

I was bored one night and was looking on AOL for people in my city (not looking for women specifically, just people), to strike up a conversation with, see if we shared interests, things like that. Figured I could get a friend or two out of it if nothing else... Maybe someone to go clubbing with or something.

Anyway... she was someone that was local AND on-line, and I IM'd her. We IM chatted for a few months getting more personal as time went on... We had our first date Halloween night, 10 years ago this past Halloween. We stayed in at her place and played strip poker.

I met DBF online (Match). We began to email each other on a Friday. That Saturday I called him (he asked me to). He missed my call, but called me back Sunday. Monday we went on our first date (lunch), and have been together ever since!

Wow...that was quick!

We met at a funeral home. biggrin  I worked there and his family owned the florist across the street.  He delivered funeral flowers.  6 years later we got married in the chapel of that funeral home, with the funeral director doing the ceremony.  Its a fun story to tell.biggrin

I rode the bus and my run was considered the worst run, so all the new guys got stuck with it.
DH was a new driver. We started talking....I filled him in on all the gossip.
We've been together 8 1/2 years, married for 4 1/2.

My dad paid for a month on yahoo personals. DH messaged me and we ended up talking for almost 8 hours. Met the next day and dated for 2-3 months. He broke up with me the day after Valentine's Day. At the end of May he calls me out of the blue and wants to come over and talk...about his girlfriend. So I let him. They broke up soon after and he asked me out again. We married the following April and is going on 8 years.

After a long term relationship ended, I joined a dating site. One day I got a message that said, "Hey, didn't we date about 20 years ago? I've often wondered how you ended up." I replied that I didn't think so, but looked at his profile again. I sent him another message that said simply "Are you Darla's cousin?" I had briefly dated a distant relative of hers all those years ago.

After we chatted on line for a few weeks, I invited him to stop by the art gallery where I was a volunteer hostess on the weekends once a month, so he could see the exhibit. We were married a year and a half ago.

I'd been to a 3-day conference and went to see a friend when I got back to tell her all my new dirty jokes before I forgot them. Her cousin was visiting. DF and I had known each other for 5 years at that point. She had a big family and I'd heard her cousin's name a couple of times but never met him. I went ahead and told him the dirty jokes too and he called me at work the next day to ask me out.

Met my husband at college on the coldest day in Chicago history. The buses weren't running because it was too cold so I ended up walking to a Saturday morning class.

He says he took one look at my frostbitten face and decided he would marry me. It took me quite a bit longer to figure it out, but obviously it took.

29 years today!

I was working at an afterschool job. I was the youngest person there and I didn't even compare to the other girls since they were old enough to drive and drink and they didn't have curfews and stuff but one guy was really nice. He made sure I wasn't left out of everything. He would watch out for me at parties he took me to my prom, taught me how to drive and hung in there through some family crap and never judged. First we were friends, then quickly best friends then he was my boyfriend then husband.

I look at my 16 year old and I can't imagine her being with the one guy that she's going to be with for the rest of her life. Crazy.

Yeah - its always fun to say that first line and then pause..... and laugh at the faces people make! My mom (God bless her sense of humor) says he picked me "Because she was the only live one there!" Sigh.

There are a lot of fun stories in this thread! Romance can start almost anywhere.

Lady Paint, was that pre-internet dating or did one of you place an ad for something to sell? Maybe you had a whirlwind courtship over a slightly used sofa or a second hand china hutch?

That was way back in the Dark Ages (1980's) when the internet was just a rumor and there was no such place as Match.com.

I was trying to meet a nice guy to settle down with, after making a horrible choice the first time around.  I was not having much luck going out and meeting guys.  Mostly met married guy who were screwing around.

A friend suggested a put a personal in a local paper, the Willamette Week.  The ads were done in such a way that your privacy was protected.

It was  a blast.  I was really surprised that I received several hundred letters and some of them were real weirdos.  But amongst all those weirdos, I found my husband.

Of course before I met him, I went out with some strange guys!

DH and I met in Mexico at the organization I was interning at. He initially came down with his church group for a week in '04 (I think?). His junior highers were making me crazy while we were working on shingling a roof, and I had kicked all but one off for horsing around. That one decided to stick his hands in tar and stick roofing nails to his fingers. Then-unknown-stranger saw I was about to lose it and yelled at the kid "HEY (kid name)! Look at that!" while pointing in the sky behind us. Kid turned around to look, and then-unknown-stranger mouthed "Are you ok?" at me. I cracked up!

We talked later back at the base a bit. He came in February of 2005 to do an internship, and we became good friends. He's 6.5 years older than me, and I was only just turned 19, so I didn't think of him THAT way for a long time. I think it was in mid-June of that year that we started having feelings for each other, and we decided to see where it would go, if anywhere.

I left Mexico in August, he left in September. We did the long distance thing until we got married in June 2007!

Belated anniversary congratulations, Huck!

When I met DH, I was newly divorced and quite certain (and very comfortable with the thought) that I would be single for the rest of my life.

We met at a square dance. He asked me to dance a tip (that's a set of 2 in square dance language) and we were together the rest of the night. Afterwards we went to a cafe for hot chocolate (me) and coffee (him). It was right before Christmas and he had no family in the area, so I invited him to spend it with me and my parents (who already knew him...they were square dancers, too). We dated or talked on the phone every day that week before Christmas and the week after as well. He started going to church with me and it didn't take me long to realize he was a "keeper."

We married 3 1/2 months after we met. So much for the single life!

Kina, I love it that you broke all the "rules" and ended up happily married. Love will ifnd a way...

Living, the age difference was what slowed me up, too. Mr. Huck is 10 years older than I (almost to the day). I was 22 and at the weekend college we both attended almost everyone was a returning student and female--so he had all these women in their 30s obviously interested in him. It just didn't occur to me that he was looking to me for anything other than a pal.

Huck, I look back with horror at what I did. I would NEVER advocate anyone marrying so quickly. We are fortunate because this could have been a disaster. DH is 7 years older than I am and was ready to settle down. I just went along. Dumb, but it worked out!
