As a landlord it blows my mind that a tennant would think it was my responsibility to come in their house and change batteries in stuff.
As an adult human with a fully functioning brain it blows my mind that anyone would wrap their smoke detector in blankets and stuff it in the dryer. You do realize that device is there to possibly save your life and that of your neighbors as well right?
Your landlord has insurance on their PROPERTY. If it burns down they rebuild and get another tennant. If you die you're just dead. There is no upside for you. *leaves this thread muttering your landlord is irresponsible and drunk but what's your excuse?

i lived in a place for a while where the landlord was too drunk/irresponsible to replace the batteries in our smoke detectors. For whatever reason it had an amazing built in battery life and was just constantly chirping. So we kept our in the dryer, with some blankets wrapped around it.
I wrote a response that was so much meaner than that then I copied it to clipboard to -nicen it up a bit- Above is the final edited version that I eventually posted.
In the Black Friday ad they always have one, and I went online to look at it and they didn't have it in there, so I went snooping about and several sites were talking about the lack of snow globe. That's where momma bear and I always go! ):
