I am currently reading Misery by Stephen King.  I have to admit that I'm fairly disappointed in it.  I'm not sure if it's because I know the basic plot (just not the ending) or if people have built SK up so much over the years that no book can possibly live up to the hype.  I have read other things by him that I really enjoyed, such as Duma Key, but others have fallen flat.  I was expecting The Shining to be scary, but not once did I feel the need to put it in the freezer!  (5 internet dollars to the first person who gets that reference!)

I don't really like Stephen King - other than The Stand and some of his shorter books. Hated Dreamcatcher and couldn't finish Insomnia.

I just finished Dreamland by Sarah Dessen, a teen book. It was ok, but not something I'd recommend. And I'm partway through Wool by Hugh Howey - it's a post-apocalyptic story and I'm liking the way the author set up the book. I"m about halfway through and it's not the best book I've ever read, but it's got enough mystery in it that keeps me wanting to know what happens next and the characters are interesting to me. I read The Art of Racing in the Rain in December and I really liked that one.

Code Name Verity (a YA novel). I highly recommend it. A Scottish "spy" is captured by the Germans in WWII & writes about what happens before she was captured (as she is waiting to die).

flan, that book looks really good - I think I'll be buying it soon. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm reading Daughters for a Time right now and I'm liking it so far. It's about a woman trying to heal from her family falling apart in childhood and how to deal/come to terms with her current life situations.

You're welcome. I have a hunch that there is a big twist in the second half, but can't guess what it's going to be.

This afternoon I bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. It is a retelling of the Jane Austin classic with the Bennet sisters fighting a zombie attack in Regency England. I've only read a dozen or so pages, but it looks entertaining.

I'm reading "Wicked". It's taking forever. I usually pick a book sit down and read it all the way through. I haven't had time to do that in a while so I thought I would start it and read as I had the time. It's been a few weeks and I'm not even half way yet. I am enjoying it though.

I'm in the middle of 2 books. 1 is for fun, 1 is for the UMW reading program.

My fun book is the Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes. It's 3 different collections of stories from The Strand magazine, and The Hound of The Baskervilles. I am really enjoying the stories and have a pretty good success rate for figuring out the perp.

My "required" book is This Child Shall Be Great by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. It's a memoir of Africa's first female president. I'm only on chapter 2, but it's interesting so far.

This weekend I finished "Ironskin," a Jane Eyre inspired fantasy novel.
http://www.amazon.com/Ironskin-Tina-Connolly/dp/0765330598/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1368491612&sr=1-1&keywords=ironskin

I read "Graveyard's Child" while I was getting sunburned, lol.
http://www.amazon.com/Killing-Rites-Book-Black-Daughter/dp/1439176345

It's an urban fantasy, but a cut above the usual vampire stuff.

I"m currently reading "Nightshifted" - urban fantasy, but with a nurse.

In my car, I am listening to Carl Hiiasen's "Star Island" on audiobook.

I'm STILL on my Holmes anthology, but I've made a lot of progress lately. I'm really enjoying it. I finished my book about Ellen Sirleaf - it was very good, but by the end, I was a little over her multitude of details. Wonderfully well-written, though.

I got a 5 story book of Regency romances - I am halfway through the 3rd one. Not sure how much Regency there is but there sure is a lot of "romance" *wink wink nudge nudge* *lol*

Currently? This thread.

When relaxing, I've been hooked on ebooks by Elin Hilderbrand. They get me ready for a beach vacation.

It's worth reading that many times though... (I've probably read it half that many times... I can almost quote it.)

"in the car" is where my current book is too... for the same reason. Waiting on people is about the only chance I get to read anymore.

Reading is like breathing...lol. I have learned how to walk and read at the same time. Who are some of your other favorite authors?

Along with Jean M Auel and {whomever REALLY writes the "Richard Castle" books}, you mean?

Hmmm.... I like OLDER Stephen King stuff (Christine, The Shining, Pet Sematary, et cetera), Dale Brown, Clive Cussler, Any Star Trek or Star Wars author, Isaac Asimov, L Ron Hubbard (as long as we stay away from "Dianetics")... that's all that come to mind currently.

I am close to finishing The Moviegoer, by Walker Percy.

I've also been trying to finish up some books of short stories, essays etc.  This type of book-which doesn't consist of one linear narrative-doesn't have to be read all at once, but I started to feel I was in too many of them. I recently finished the short story collection City of Boys, by Beth Nugent and have been working on Classic Crime, by William Roughead.

I saw my son walking home from work and reading at the same time.  I asked him how the heck he managed to not kill himself - he said he has all the big sidewalk cracks and tree root bumps memorized.

If you like scifi and haven't tried her books yet you should check out Anne MacCaffrey. My favorite is her Dragonrider series but her Freedom's Landing was a close second.
