I wouldn't like it too much if I was anyone here. It's a REALLY bad (read: UNSAFE) idea.

Glassware that you are going to put in the oven needs to stay as it was when it was tempered. even the smallest change to it could affect it's ability to handle high temperatures without cracking/shattering.

As cool as this idea is, Richard is right.

The newer Pyrex dishes are even less safe than the older vintage models due to a change in the formula. Consumer Reports had an article on it a year or so ago. To be fair, the manufacturer disputes the claims, but the article was pretty convincing.

I think the same issues could come up if done on the handles as well. Glass is only as strong EVERYWHERE as it's weakest point.

After thinking about it for a while... another idea did come to me, etched PLATES. Get glass dinner plates (could be colored glass as well) and etch/engrave them from the bottom. It'd have to be SUPER shallow to maintain the integrity of the plate... but plates don't get oven heated (at least not by normal people), so the integrity of a plate isn't QUITE as important.

Hey all, I have seen the bakeware done before and liked the idea. I also wondered what it did to the durability of the dish but have not looked into it much. Then I thought that maybe acid etching would be better than blasting. Some day I will do plates the way Richard suggested. Maybe once I have a retail place to have my stuff at. I have only had limited success on etsy and think a lot of my stuff has to be seen and touched in person to fully appreciate.

MD, look into local craft festivals. They get a LOT of attendees around here, especially if they're in the fall or have a Christmas theme. A lot of people are out looking for gifts. Too bad you're in TX and I'm in PA - we have a very popular Christmas festival. (Although, you could write your travel expenses off!)

Maybe glass Christmas ornaments?

I have found glass ornaments I plan to do in the fall. I have also been playing with photo transfer onto stone tiles for coasters and display. We have a monthly market in a town about an hour and a half away that we plan to try and be apart of starting in June. I plan on having etched glassware, etched wine bottles in the form of hummingbird feeders, oil lamps, bottles with pourers, and hurricane lanterns, photo coasters, display tiles, engraved stones and some other stuff. I have a lot of inventory to build up in the mean time.

I saw some planters on Pinterest made of wine bottles. Maybe you could make something like this with Herb names etched on them. It would be handy in the kitchen window for herbs.

She send us a set of flat stones with the pic of our LO and they are awesome!!!!
I loved them very much and gave one to my parents and one to my ILs they said the pics look great and loved them as a keepsake of their favorite grandkid :D

Like Des said, that's it. I have only been listing things that ship easily so the wine bottles haven't made it there yet. I have also cut some bottles to be planters like were posted above. I need to purchase the supplies to make it into a kit and then I will probably try to sell them at a local nursery and the market. I have seen a mixture of using hydroponic pellets and potting soil. I have been meaning to get a bag of the pellets and try it out to see how it works before I sell them.
