I realize this is unkind...all the talk about shutting down the board makes me wish they would if the mods are going to hold over everyone's head what a hard job they have and hold public beat downs of any with any criticism every time punishment is doled out. The idea that the board is a democracy largely comes from the fact that people see the mods as representatives of the community because they spend so much time as regular members, when the mods have made it very, very clear that's not the case. Anyway, my two cents. Possibly worth much less than even that.

I'm glad to be some place! And with you all! I think I'm letting stress from school bleed over into this whole thing. Were I not already an emotional basket case I probably wouldn't have even cared about any of this. Apparently yoga this morning did not zen me out. Going to try some time at the dog park, see if that relaxes me a bit.

I think I missed some serious drama. I was very upset by what was being posted and so I wasn't on the board until this morning when the "you have been banned" popped up. I admit I am morbidly curious about what went on Friday night and through Sat and Sun, so if somebody wants to PM me some details, I'd appreciate it.

I don't really get the mass ban. I can see why I was banned - I started the thread. Though I don't agree. I can see why Notsosoccer was banned (if she was) since she made the phone call.

I don't get why anybody else was banned.

We can talk about it a little bit. I don't think slamming posters but I think we can vent our frustration as long as you don't do personal attacks. I think that's what Aardi said last night. I could be wrong.

Not your fault at all! I own that I misunderstood Soccermom and I was tired because I had been dry heaving all night so really didn't read her posts that well. I did take back what I had said once I realized, but hey I guess taking back stuff doesn't matter.

Not a personal attack I don't think, but posters were banned for actions that were never against the rules. Like "+2" or whatever. I mean the admins get to make up rules and enforce them after the fact and everyone's ok with it? But like they said it's not a democracy.

I got a month for a post I made at the very beginning. Things started getting messy, so I left. I posted on the question thread saying that I wouldn't do it again because people were getting upset that I hadn't said anything. The next time I tried to sign on, I was blocked without any explanation.

OD - I wouldn't beat yourself up about the bannings. You did what you thought was best, and admin did what they thought best. Although it is rather interesting that as far as I can tell, they deleted the thread in question, so even when people bring up the kind of point that plebian did - "once I knew what really happened, I stated that I changed my opinion" - and at least one person on there did, no one has a reference to prove what happened. (And if it was a privacy issue that made them delete the thread, they shouldn't have the 'banning list' sticky open for even lurkers to read.) The discussion thread on the bannings is locked now, too.

To me, deleting the orginal "trouble" thread and having the "banned" sticky open but locked just seems like censorship and bullying to me. It has a very "question us and be punished" vibe to me.

We actually have some built-in shelves in the closet of DH's office, but those are for DH's books, our old textbooks, etc. He has lots of shelves in his office, too, but those are for his current school/church books. It doesn't help that I just bought....15? 20? books this week.
