Camping? Do you all enjoy camping
Permalink

My DH and I do, from May through September we usually camp every weekend.  I like just getting away from town and relaxing and riding and enjoying outside.

We have a fifth wheel, but often dry camp and might have things (microwave, TV etc) in it, but usually cook outside and spend our time outside.

We sit around the fire and read, talk, or have a cold drink, just enjoy the time, our puppies, each other and any kids who might come along

I love to camp, but the camping we used to do when we were a couple was very different.
We had our tent and went out with friends, got some food, lots of alcohol and camped near a water body.

It was a total blast!
Sometimes I miss those days.

I would love to camp, haven't in years. If I had a camper, I would probably do similar to you. It is just so convenient to not have to pitch a tent and such.

Not every weekend. I do enjoy it maybe once a year. We have not been in a while. We normally camp at the Great Smokey Mtns. The campsites just have a fire pit and a place to put a tent and a picnic table. No electricity or running water. They have communal bathrooms with just toilets and sinks and a place to get water and do dishwashing. It is pretty fun but we go from like Friday evening to Sunday morning with no shower. So we get pretty stinky.

The problem being I spend about 2 days packing before we go and then when we get back another several days unpacking and washing all the bedding so it does not smell like smoke anymore from campfires. So it is a lot of work for me. So I really have to gear myself up to do it. I enjoyed doing it as a kid.

We also in college did semi camping meaning we set up camps in my mom's back yard. She lives out in the country and we hung out at the fire pit and drank and whatever but would go inside the house to use the bathroom and we only did it one night. That was always fun too.

I would like for once to do cabin camping with like a cabin that maybe has a full bathroom and maybe a kitchen but be in the woods. That would be a lot easier on me. I love being out in nature. I just am a bit too lazy to do all the work involved but like once a year. It takes a lot of prep work for me.

that's what I like about the camper

We keep the basics in it all the time and we keep it plugged in so I can keep things in fridge and freezer and we even have clothes in it and bedding etc, even dogs have their bed, toys and food LOL

so we just toss in fresh veggies etc and go. and when we get home, just take dirty clothes out and then reload. and GOOOOOOOOOOO

True, if camping was like that where I can just kinda keep things stocked and ready to go, it would be MUCH easier! Campers eat a lot of gas but otherwise I think they are kinda cool. I don't know if I would want to own like a camper or RV but I would totally be down with renting one or borrowing one to camp in. Be a lot of fun!

damn, 38 foot isn't messing around. I want a 12-16' one but I also want to be able to pull it behind a half ton even though there is a 1 ton we could use.

To me, camping is staying in a hotel without room service!

I'm not usually a spoiled, pampered princess, but I like my modern conveniences!

We have an older Dodge dually, no grill guard on it which I am guessing what you are calling a cow catcher.

I'm with you! I would make a very, very bad camper.bleh

We'll stay in the hotel, Ardie, and let the others do the camping.

Although, I do like the "sitting around the campfire, toasting marshmallows, drinking, talking" part of it.  As long, at the end of the day, I can have an indoor shower and a nice warm bed, I'm down with it.biggrin

Thank you Riding!

In my head I was picturing a giant net, like the ones you'd use to catch butterflies, but cow sized LOL

LMAO oh Des, you make me laugh so. A cow net. I can only imagine the expression on your face as your mind was trying to wrap itself around that concept

Mi imagination runs rampant, that's why I had to ask. It's better when someone explains it to me, because otherwise I keep googling until I find something that validates what my mind came up with.

:D

You know I'm crazy! And then I would go around telling people "Did you know that there are nets to catch cows and that you can attach them to the grill of your truck?!"

And then I'd be all

Riding, you must record these efforts.

Oh, oh, I got to watch a baby calf be born a little while back. It was gross and cool at the same time.

Would a fondue pot full of lovely melted chocolate be an acceptable substitute for the campfire?  Or we could get a fancy suite with a fireplace!  Or both!

I would LOVE it if there could be a peeps camping trip. I saw my ideal camper today. It was probably 14" with a slideout. It just seems hard to find small ones around here. There are always specials on the larger ones because there are so many of them.

I really miss camping, camping to me means northern Michigan type woods. Not Texas where you can almost never build any type of fire. :(

Someday I will do desert camping, way way out with nothing but the stars at night (and of course my camp fire!).

TBF, you moved to Texas at what has been a bad time for droughts. We used to only have burn bans for a month or two a year. If it was a bad year, maybe 3 months total through out the year.

I love a camp fire too, but often with dry season open fires are not allowed so my family got me an awesome propane fit pit for my birthday last year and that is fun too!

I used to do a lot of camping, tent and sleeping bag style. We had a lot of fun.
Now that I'm older, I enjoy my comfort, and like a bed, indoor toilets and running water. I could go hang out during the day, then retreat to the motel room at night. :)

If ilovesuomi and I share our fondue, can we come to the picnic? We won't need beds, 'cause we'll have a suite at the nearest hotel!

I was looking at some cool camping spots yesterday. They had a pretty lake on one side and a playground on the other so the kids can play and I can keep an eye on them from the campsite. So next time my Dad asks to take the kids camping I am suggesting there instead of 3 hours away! At least this way we are 10 mins from my house and can go home to shower or if I forget something!

My favorite camping activities are biking, hiking, just hanging around the campfire making smores, the kids do nature scavenger hunts and stuff like that. I usually bring some sand type trucks and buckets and shovels to dig around the campsite since there is usually gravel or sand. Its pretty fun.

I have always loved camping. The rougher the better.

But I don't do it much anymore. Since I moved out to the country, where I live is pretty much like camping all the time. But I still have a bathroom, which is nice.
