Somewhat in the vein of free stuff, I really want some empty baby food jars. I posted on FB and on a local trading group, but so far no offers! I offered to trade handmade soap or lotion for them.
I would like to go to some spring shows, and I think that the baby food jars would be a good container for lotion. I hate buying the containers, b/c it ends up that the container costs me more than what's IN the container! I make lotion bars in roll-up deodorant type-tubs, and I have to charge about $8, b/c the tubes are so darn expensive.
yeah if I had any I would save them for you. Stuff like that is great for freecycle. That is what freecycle is for. It would keep them out of a landfill.
Honestly sometimes even the offerers were terrible. We had one woman say she had baby food to give away she never used. So we were like awesome and came to get them. Drove 15 mins to get them. Over half of them were expired..... The bitch could not bother to look at the expiration date before offering them?! We were pissed. What are we going to do with expired baby food!? Then we had another guy offer a basketball goal but when I got there it had been laying down in the mud for years and was filthy and old and unusable. I think he just wanted someone to haul it away for free for him. I just left it there.
My family has given away some weird stuff on either freecycle or craig's list (can't remember which).
First - a street light. They were replacing the street lights and dad somehow brought one home and had it installed in our backyard. When they were putting on an addition the street light was in the way, so they gave it away on craigslist.
Other thing was a metal girder. The man who owned our home before us owned a construction company, so he used commercial-grade things in the house. Like metal girders. So during the addition, they had to remove one and gave it away.
Read a humorous book once that included an anecdote about people sneaking out during work and putting zucchinni in their co-worker's cars to get rid of it.
