Wouldn't you be embarrassed?

No advice needed, just sharing a story. (Catty remarks welcome!)

My dad was talking about this guy he's known for 20+ years, "Joe". They aren't friends or anything. Apparently, Joe has been wetting himself in public regularly (as in on a weekly basis) for the better part of 20 years. At one bar where he was a regular, he would have the waitresses walk in front of him after he'd wet himself to hide the wet spot so he could talk to the bathroom. Recently, at a different bar, the waitress chewed his ass for leaving pee puddles on the barstool.

It just boggles my mind that this guy hasn't started wearing Depends. Wouldn't you be embarrassed to wet yourself in public on a WEEKLY basis?

Yes, I would, but I'd have probably gone to see a urologist after the first incident as this could be the sign of a more serious condition.  It also could be very well remedied through surgery or some other method, and at the very least, yes, I'd be wearing Depends, rather than inflict my bodily fluids upon others.  The fact that he knows he has this conditon and doesn't seem to do anything about it makes me think he's kind of anti-social.

OR he gets some sort of weird charge out of involving others in his "accident". Maybe he's marking his territory?

An uncle of DH has started to have some issues with this kind of thing, but the guy is really old and he just refuses to wear Depends even though he knows that 3 out of 5 times he wont make it on time to the bathroom.
For him, we think is a matter of pride.

I think "Joe" is just weird.

Yes, I would be embarrassed and yes, I would wear depends if I had to. My mother has that issue and she wears the little pads just in case. It happens to a lot of people. There is no shame in it, just take care of it and don't be gross.

Apparently my GM who is 84 has also sometimes hard a hard time making it to the bathroom on time when she wakes up and has had some accidents on the carpet. She acted like it was nothing and also refuses to wear Depends or even get the carpet deep cleaned.

I really hope when I am old I am not stubborn like that.

I'd be embarrassed to regularly wet myself in PRIVATE. Forget about doing it in PUBLIC. Nope. Not happening. Not acceptable.

I get that accidents happen, and if it's an accident, then you clean up and move on... but... if it's a regular occurrence, then you take steps to address the issue... whatever the issue is and whatever the steps may need to be. It's called "being a grown up and taking responsibility".
