A police report says 24-year-old Amanda Hall, of San Luis Obispo, California, climbed over one fence and almost got over the second fence of the giraffe enclosure at the Henry Vilas Zoo about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
A 2-year-old, 12-foot-tall giraffe named Wally gave Hall a lick, then turned and kicked her in the face.
Zoo staff told police that giraffes are capable of killing lions, so the woman was fortunate that her injuries were not life-threatening.
Police ticketed Hall for harassment of zoo animals, which has a fine of $686.
The police report says Hall told officers she climbed into the exhibit because she loves giraffes.
What are people thinking when they try to get into cages and pens with wild animals at the zoo? It never ends well. I think the fine should be at least $1000. Someone who is that big of a dumb ass deserves it. She was lucky to only have been kicked by the giraffe.
It wasn't that long ago that a couple of college boys (I think) were killed when they sneaked into a big cat exhibit.
Also, was she alone at the zoo? Do her friends have as little sense as she does? No one said, "Um, I don't know, Amanda. You probably shouldn't go in there."
Why can't these idiots admire from afar!! I just do not understand needing to be next to an animal to appreciate it! Yes, of course I've dreamed about getting to pet big cats etc, but I am quite sure I will never actually attempt to invade their cages to do so!
yeah she is lucky it did not kill her. dumbass. Most zoos have giraffe feeding areas and times where you can give them branches with their favorite leaves to eat assisted by a zookeeper safely. Dumbass should have just done that instead.
