I was a little surprised this year – businesses I use but have no real interaction with (like the pest control company: they come, spray, and send a bill but I never see anyone and have no way of telling if they really have been here) suddenly contact me the week before xmas and tell me that they will be at the house in a couple of days. I got the distinct feeling they were fishing for a tip. Very odd.
I don't "Holiday Tip". If they are a tipped service (like a waiter or waitress), I tip them, as usual... but not someone that gets well paid to perform their job already.

Well, I do tip the women who clean my house around xmas. I bring a little something to the woman who works at our tiny post office (this has improved service tremendously). If I get my hair done in December I usually tip my stylist more because he is so accommodating when it comes to appointments and such.
One the other hand, I have received holiday cards from the garbage collectors (not where I live now) and that also felt like they were fishing for a tip. Just odd.
I don't "holiday tip" just because they are doing their job. If, however, I have more than JUST a client/provider relationship with them (like we talk, and are friends TOO), they would get a gift of some sort as FRIENDS. The fact that they are a provider of service being irrelevant to that.
