Has anyone read "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket? I picked up books 1-8 (is that all of them?) at a yard sale and my kids are dying to get their hands on them. I don't have time to sit down and read them right now. They look fine to me, I am tempted to just hand them over. My boys are 9 and 7 and read just about anything.
I read the first one in the series several years ago, but don't remember much about it. Are you concerned that it might be to old for them? According to Amazon it is for ages 10 and up, so I'd probably let the older one have the first book and see if he likes it. Maybe he'll be able to help you decide if it is ok for his younger brother.
I have read the whole series. There are 13 books in total. They are a bit dark but tongue in cheek and witty. There are a lot of references to classic books and characters that will likely go over younger kids' heads. I am not the best judge of books for kids but a mature 9 year old might enjoy them, the 7 year old might be a bit young (or not). They are great books for reading aloud. I first listened to the audio books and I am now reading the actual books.
I'll trade you, EmmDee. It still cold enough here on some days to need a warm coat. I want to put my winter coat away for the year. After all - it is JUNE!
I have some extra clouds too if you want them. This is the 3rd day of rain and chilly weather but I'll take it over the hot humid crap expected next week,

Great. It's almost time to leave. I'll stop and pick up some wine then wait for the girls to show up. I wish you were closer I would invite you for girls night. We have so much fun.

Enjoy, Riding. I am going to a graduation party (high school) for DBF's niece and it is raining here. I can't wait for the sun to arrive and stay for awhile.
I have a ton of drama going on, it is posted on zeta but I just don't have the motivation to bring it over here. I'm just kind of overwhelmed and would really like a day off away from everything.
Emm, I don't have access to zeta boards so I hope everything is okay. If you just need an ear you can pm me.

DH & I went for a walk yesterday to our oldest grandson's baseball game. It was hot, but the walk was fine because we had a nice breeze. It took us about a half hour to walk up there.
We got to the game, I said hello to grandson and bought a water at the concession stand. A little while later I was hungry (didn't have lunch and it was about 2:45 at this point), so I ordered pierogies. About an hour after we got there we were sitting on the bleachers and decided we wanted slushies.
Well - I cut out sugary drinks two months ago (I used to live on green iced tea mix, but now I drink water, brewed iced tea with splenda and sometimes Pepsi Next). A few mintues after drinking the slushy I stood up and felt strange. So I sat back on the edge of the bleachers with my feet on the ground and I grabbed DH and pulled him to me & put my head on his chest.
Good thing I did that! Next thing I knew he was yelling "Babe! Babe! Are you okay?" He said I was out for about 30 seconds, but it felt like 20 minutes to me.
I came out of it but felt like I might be sick. I was able to walk to my stepDD's car & I quickly came out of it once the AC hit me. DH kept asking me if I could see and made me read the street signs to him.
He was originally going to take me to the hospital but because I came out of it quickly he took me home. He looked up heat exhaustion on the internet and I had all the symptoms except for muscle cramps, so he did what they said to do - gave me water, a cold pack and I stayed in the room with the AC. It said to seek medical help if the cramping & sweating don't go away after drinking water or a sports drink and being in a cool room. I was fine the rest of the night as long as I stayed in that room and stayed sitting or lying down. If I stood up too long I felt woozie again and I had a dull headache.
DH did not leave my side all night. Around 7:30 I wanted to take a bath and he insisted on staying in the bathroom with me. I don't think he slept good, though, because I didn't hear him snore all night and he's a LOUD snorer.
